05 4x4 question

I gave my dad my Truck last night, this morning I get in to come to a stop sign and I hear a whining Gear noise as I come to a stop, now I know he had it in 4x4 last night so I put it in 4X4 and drove it for a mile then I disengaged at 15MPH it made a spooling sound like something was winding down.
After that all was fine, I have to take the truck on 4000 Mile trip next week and I'm a little concerned.

Sounds like you may be having problems with the IWE's. If those, it could be the vacuum lines are bad, solenoid bad, or IWE's are bad. Only other possibility would be the transfer case, maybe not disengaging fully. Unfortunately, we can only guess at the possibles.

More than likely it is the the IWE's. Unfortunately they don't have the best track record. If I were you I would take the truck into the dealer, or other mechanic that you trust, and get it fix. Especially before your big trip next week.

No need to close it, and it would be good if once the problem is fixed you report back with the fix. Never know when something new might show up.

i would change the solenoid on the firewall behind the battery. a whole lot cheaper and easier. if it has the old style without the cover to keep rain off it should be changed anyway. you mightget lucky. i got my solenoid for 15 bucks. the dealer i think is 35

I replaced the right side 4x4 vacuum something(it operates the hubs). It was better for a day and the noise came back(not as loud)
So I had the left side replaced also,so far so good.
