Heated mirrors

I've got a 2007 FX4 SC with power mirrors but no heat. I can get a heater control off ebay for $50 with the switch in it, but what do I need for the mirror? Is it the complete mirror assembly or just a part inside it that can be replaced?

For the 03-06 Exyps, you can just replace the mirror (it pops off). It has 2 contacts on the back of it, where 2 wires connect. The wires go live when you push the defrost button.

Last I checked, heat mirrors are 40+ per mirror for the 03-06 body style.

Found a pleasant surprise when I saw that I had heated mirrors. Or, at least that have the prongs in the back to where the wires connect. They don't have the little defrost drawing on them, though, so I wonder if they are after market?

so if I get the switch and mirror glass, is that it?

I read on another site about having to get Ford to reflash something.

When we(here) were adding the tow mirrors to the trucks, some did not have the heat button , and someone bought the a/c control with heat button, but they also had to buy the fuse block (or change it out to a diffrent one) becouse of no power going to the heat button. Just an FYI. You can use a new switch and hard wire it urself.

so there's a chance it's a completely different fuse block for a truck that came with powered mirrors without heat to one that had heat? Seems pretty weird. I've searched through dozens of threads and can't seem to find a definitive answer. I was hoping that the wiring harness was going to be the same it would just be adding the oem switch and swapping out the mirror glass, maybe plugging in a fuse. I don't want an aftermarket switch, I want it to look oem. Are the 04-08 trucks the same? Does anyone have the part # for the fuse block?

When I add Heated, and signal towing mirrors to my 06 which only came with power mirrors the wires for the heat and signal were already in the door. Signals will work be just plugging them in. To get the heat to work you have to change the HEATER CONTROL switch to one with the heated mirror button like you have said. You also have to change the passenger side fuse block too. The one that was there had the holes for the fuse's but the pins were missing on it.

Part number on my 06 for it was
FUSE BOX W/ HEAT

Also, it would just be a lot easy to find a whole new mirrors with heat/ signals in it. If you just buy the glass w/ heat you still would have to add the pins to the back of the mirror connector. Then it is just unbolting the old ones and bolting the new ones up.

Thanks for the help guys. It's definitely requiring a few more parts than I figured but it's something I really need. Any idea of a cost on that fuse block and if it's available online anywhere?

I will have to get the wiring diagram out of these days and check if mine is prewired for it. But I have no problem hard wiring it if it comes down to it...

I've been playing message tag with Tasca for a week now and still haven't come up with the right part numbers. I keep getting part numbers that have the right hand mirror glass for around $14 and the left hand glass for $124. The fuse block was around $180 at Tasca as well.

I think I'll be have a look at my local wrecking yard for some used parts.
