remote starter
remote starter
I was thinking of getting a remote starter for my truck. Does anyone have any recommendations? Can i install it or should i let a pro do it? Will it mess anything up on the truck?
I would for sure let a pro do it. I go a Code Alarm SRT 9000 and had tons of issues with it so now(as of today) I have a Clifford Matrix 50.7X. I let another shop do the install this time and they said the previous shop did a horrible job installing my Code Alarm. They even said they went in and fixed a few things for me. Make sure your installer actually knows what he is doing and has been doing it for awhile. Go to a nice well run shop and you shouldn't have any problems.
Alarm wise I would go DEI, they make Viper, Clifford, and Python along with several other companies. All of which are very well made products.

I've got the code alarm..made by Audiovox..and used by Ford.
I had a shop install it a month ago. They did the basic install...which sucked.
But then I went back and made them give me the relays that came in the box and the installers manual..not the users manual. Then I corrected the mounting..adjusted both sensitivity settings..mounted the bypass button..they had taped it to a wiring harness... and last but not least with the relays and manual I wired up my heated mirrors and heated drivers seat.If I had another relay i would of done both seats but choose 1 seat and the mirrors since I only had the 2 relays.Bottom line I love it now.I had a code alert on my durango..had it for 5 yrs and never had a problem with it.Its not as fancy and is only 1 way..but it does what its suppose to do.
Could I have installed it myself..yeah.after seeing the installers manual its not to hard.Would I have had it done in an hour and a half like they did..NO
Did it come with a bypass box..NO they included it.
Their work and the alarm cost me 150 bucks. It then took me almost 2 hours to make it right and wire it the way I wanted..(I had to pay 20 bucks for a AllData subscription to get the wiring diagrams needed for the seats and mirrors).. but I'm very happy with it now.
Just my 2 cents worth....

I had an aftermarket automatic starter in my Expedition & a Ford starter in my F150 (installed when I purchased my truck). The starter in my Expedition stopped working & had poor range. They hacked up the wiring during installation. The Ford starter had excellent range and programmed into my key fob. I would check the Ford dealership for a price. They may be priced closely to an aftermarket shop. Good luck!

Give Travis a call at kcautosound.com and install it yourself. Travis pre-wires them for you which makes the install soooooo easy especially if you go with the Ford single fob, there are only 4 wires to connect. (PWR, GND, DOOR LOCK & PRK LGHTS).
