Factory Tilt Lever
gonna bring up an old thread as i just bought my 04. i pulled up on lever and it came off. its not broke or anything, just came off. how does it actually go back on. do you have to take lower dash under steering wheel off?
I snapped mine off the first time I drove the truck, but it didn't break. All I had to do was pull the side panel off of the dash that is parallel with the door and I was able to look in there and pop it on, it just clips onto a little tab.
I just purchased a 04 FX4 and couldn't find my lever. I was going to try to adjust it manually so I removed the plastic and metal pieces below the steering wheel. Low and behold the lever had come off and was down there, I just couldn't see it until I removed the pieces below the steering wheel.
There is a rectangular metal piece/adjustment **** on the left side of the column behind the dash area. The level has a C shaped cup with an opening on its right side. If you put the level slightly behind and against the left side of the rectangular adjustment ****, then pull it towards you, it will snap right on.

I'm trying to think if the '04 - '08 trucks even had a non-adjustable column available -- maybe on the "non-cruise control" trucks.....???
I'd double-check just to make sure your truck doesn't already have one and the little **** is simply missing. This is one of those options that has begun to be included with all trim levels (I.E. -- can you even buy a car without a radio or air conditioning any longer?) so it saves the manufacturer from having to design and inventory two separate units for the build process.
If not, you could certainly buy an adjustable column from a bone yard and install it in your truck -- good luck......

I know ..... old thread up until last couple posts ....
Just gonna say that it seems I always end up setting and forgetting it in the position it most likely would be if it didn't have tilt.
I had a '67 Chevelle SS with 4spd back in the late '70s - mid '80s. One day soon after I bought it from the original owner a friend was at an auction of an old shop full of stuff and paid $25 for a complete tilt column out of a '67 Impala SS that had floor shift, I only had to remake the steering shaft from firewall forward to mate with Chevelle's PS box. It was neat, it fit, it looked cool, it augmented the car that was original with PS, PB, AC, AM/FM, Leather, Tint .... all factory ..... but it still was set and forgotten in the straight position it was in with oem non tilt.
