2004 5.4L Engine Surge/Shaking/Shudder in Overdive low RPMs

I was driving down the expressway yesterday and started to get an engine surge/shake/shudder when the truck shifted into overdrive and low rpms (40-55 mph).

The truck runs completely fine at all other speeds, gears, and idle. It just seems to be that initial shift into overdrive at lower rpms.

Finally got it to draw a flashing engine code while the shaking/surging was occurring but the engine light quit flashing when i got off the freeway and the shaking quit...

Was able to pull 2 codes in the history

P0174 Fuel system lean bank two
P0308 Cylinder 8 Misfire Detected

Not really sure what the issue could be. Thinking a possible COP on the #8 cylinder ?.. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

i'll be picking up a COP for cyl 6 on monday and hopefully that will solve my problem. I tried cleaning the MAF sensor, and changing the air filter and those didn't help my situation

are you only getting the shake/surge in overdrive and low rpms? Please let me know if the new COP fixes this issue.

Had same issues, shuddering and surging around 45-50 when it goes into overdrive, but could gas it thru that range with no problem. Sometimes even at higher speeds when you let off gas a little would get shuddering. 151K on truck did plugs around 105K. Ordered COP's from uneeksupply on Ebay, whole set for $114.95. Installed this weekend and problem is gone. Sure glad its not the tranny. definitely check plugs and COP's.

b3ross, How many miles on your 2004? Probably time to do the plugs and COPs. I recommend custom tuning as well.

Please explain... can I do this myself? Any YouTube videos out there to watch? I usually work on mopeds, so this is new.
