Engine 'whine' on an 08 SCrew FX4

I have a baffling mystery going on, somebody has prob run into this before I hope: When the truck is moving and the foot is on the gas I get this whine noise coming from the engine. Almost sounds like a turbo winding up but I have nothing but a CAI mod on the engine. While the truck is still moving and I take my foot OFF the gas, no more whine. Something vibrating / rubbing? Transmission? Only happens when i'm gas'n and moving. Does not happen during idle. I also tested out moving, put it in neutral and gas it again. No whine there. ONLY when it's in gear, moving and gas pressed.

Any ideas?

I had that same exact problem with my 07 f150two weeks ago. I did a search for the problem and kept coming up with the torque converter on the tranny is going bad. I took it into the dealer and they said my TQ was bad and replaced it under warranty. Now I dont have the whine.

That's funny...

I had this same problem with my truck and I diagnosed that my engine decided to eat the alternator and, the belt tensioner pulley, and the 2 idler pulleys.

Went to the dealer and they couldn't figure out what was wrong. I asked on here, and no one could give me a straight answer so I took the chances and went to Napa and bought a new alternator, and 1 tensioner pulley, and 2 idler pulleys.

Brought the old alternator to the dealer and they found that the needle bearings were bad in the alternator and messed up the bearings in the pulleys.

Well, I took the truck into Ford for the diagnosis and guess what....the bearings in the Torque Converter are bad and will have to be replaced. It was so funny telling the Ford guy 'yeah my boys on the forum were suspecting something in the tranny - possible bad bearings in the torque converter' - he said "yep, looks like your F150 online guys were right! They have to be replaced."

Thanks again and I'm glad that I took it in before the trans drops out on me while driving.

One more question - why is it that the bearings have already gone bad? Truck is only 10 months old with 18K miles. Could it be that I have larger tires, CAI and exhaust all coupled with the fact that I like to drive it harder (lead foot on the gas peddle)?

I know this is an old post but does anynody have a $ amount on what replacing the torque converter bearings would be. My truck sounds like it has a supercharger on it under acceleration.
