is this a good price?

I'm looking at a 2004 F150 crew cab. It's owned by a guy that runs a shop and it's loaded with aftermarket parts, rims, exhaust, navigation, ground force lowering kit, bilstein shocks, bear brake rotors.... He's asking $12500 but the truck has 96k miles on it. This is all the stuff I would do to the truck myself so it's attractive to me, but I'm concerned about the miles. Any major concerns when these trucks get around this mileage? Anything specific I should be looking for that would point to potential problem?

If you do get it, have him replace the spark plugs before you buy. Trust me on this...

I don't like the idea of buying someone else's modified project, but if it trips your trigger, sure, why not.

see if hes got the maintenace records or receipts. if he took real good care of it and has the proof of oil changes, fuel filter changes, etc..., then i would take it. all that prolongs the trucks life. it wont hurt to ask. i know i got proof every every darn thing done to my truck. from oil changes to repair work. you name it..

thanks for the tip about spark plugs, I forgot that. So you think that $12k is reasonable for a truck with almost 100k miles? I put less than 10k miles a year on my truck so
I won't be racking up a ton more miles. My 99 5.4 triton had 155k on it and ran perfect. Can I expect the same out of the 2004 5.4 triton?

If the truck has been properly maintained and not abused, those miles are nothing. I have 92,000 on mine and plan on going another 100,000. The price seems reasonable to me. Yes, get the sparkplug change done.

Custom upgrades are one thing what about other stuff like: Motor size, rear end gears, towing package, assume it 4x2 since lowered, trim package (xl, xlt, lariat). Also, do you know why he is getting rid of it? Throwing out the mods what is its blue book value? As others have said if properly maintained 96k miles is not bad, but me personally I would rather find a vehicle with lower miles that's closer to stock and add upgrades as I see fit. You did say you liked what he had done to it though so maybe its the truck for you. Get us some pics and more details.

Here's the description from his ad: Power windows, door locks all the normal stuff. it has Grey cloth seats. Pioneer AVIC D3 touch screen cd/dvd player with both navigations disk and back up camera. it has a 5.4L with a K&N air intake kit, hypertech programmer and magnaflow exhaust. its lowered 2/4 with a ground force kit and Bilstein struts in the front and Bilstein shocks in the rear. the brakes are Bear Decela rotors front and back with ceramic low dust pads. 22" kmc dime wheels and Kuhmo tires all with less than 10k miles on them. recon smoke cherry rear tail lights and third brake light. also has linex bed liner and soft bed cover. i have owned since 2005 with less than 40k miles on it. the majority of the miles are highway. i use royal purple and a k&n oilfilter every oil change. i also put royal purple in the rear diff as well. i run a shop so it has been very well maintained and service.

I emailed him and he said the lowering kit, brakes and rotors have only a few thousand miles on them. He says he's selling so he can get rid of his payment, he has another vehicle to drive, maybe a motivated seller?

Sounds like a well equipped XLT. Anytime you buy a vehicle, you take a chance. That includes, new. If you like it, I would not hesitate to buy it. To me, the price is reasonable. All the mods are something I would like or could live with, myself.

^^ x2.
If it has all it says it does and has no known issues go for it. Might want to run a carfax report on it just to see its past. If all is clean it probably will not be around for long.

Just a thought here. I would not touch it personally because it is modded, but if you like it, great . He is running an intake with no custom tunes... that baby might be running lean
