Aerokroil ?? 5.4 Plug Change TSB
Aerokroil ?? 5.4 Plug Change TSB
I've been reading here for month and I know that the original TSB called for Aerokroil.
The newer or most recent TSB (I think) now suggests using Motorcraft Carb Cleaner.
I just did a search and alot of reading here and found where others have used:
1) WD-40
2) Gunk Penetrating products
3) and a few others
Does it really make much difference which??

My son just stopped by a local Ford dealer and called to ask what the stuff was I needed..........I told him Motorcraft Carb Cleaner.
He got with the parts guy who informed him that the current TSB specified Aerokroil and that is what he sold my son.
Unless there's an issue.............looks like I'll be going with Aerokroil.
Thanks for any info!

I haven't used aerokroil but have read on here how good it is. I used the motorcraft tune up stuff and it worked really good as far eating away at the carbon. I would just go down to your local dealer and get a can, its only like 5 buck for a pretty good size can.
I used the Kroil penetrating solvent and broke 3 plugs. Best results seem to go with Motorcrafts Carb Tune Up Solvent.

I use whatever I can get my hands on at the time. PM-12, WD40, PB Blaster, Kroil, generic carb cleaner, brake clean, just anything to get in there and help loosen deposits on the plugs.
My understanding is the problem is the carbon build up on the long extended part of the plug. Carb cleaner seems like it would work better and loosening this and the Aerokroil would be good for the threads of the plug itself. JMO...
Yes! I did the cold soak (they highly recommend cold) after you make sure it is a clean as you can get it with air, fill the well up to the jam nut with carb cleaner.
Quality of gas and driving style adds or lessens the chances of the plugs breaking also.
Using el cheap-o gas will leave much more deposits on the plugs than a gas with good detergent additives.
