my truck has autostart

Last week when a friend had his test equipment connected to my battery he asked me to turn the engine over but not start it. I found that to be impossible. Not because it started to quickly, but because once I turned the key the starter stayed engaged until the engine started, which was well past the length of time I held the key turned. It was if the truck is programmed to start and release the starter when it starts, and pays no attention to how long you hold the key, or the switch has a minimum contact time. Is that the case?

all u gotta do is blip the key, and it will start... helps for when its cold vs warm taking different ammount of time the key needs to be held on older vehicles..

My 08 F150 does this. It's always done it since I bought it and I would guess it's normal. Definitely makes it easier to start the truck when it takes a while longer to start.

Starting

Never seen that so this is just a thought. If you don't like that, see if there's something in the manual on how to disable that function.

My '08 FX4, my brother's '07 Lariat, and my Dad's '09 King Ranch all do this as well. It's a pretty neat little feature.

Mine doesn't have it, but I know of a trick to just crank it but not start it. Hold the gas pedal down all the way while turning the key. I've heard this works, but never tried it.

My 08 does it as well, I like it. However when I try to start my girlfriends Solara it does not got so well the first time, funny how you just start expecting things to do as you are used to.

I don't see the point in it but then again I don't have it. As a matter of fact, I only put my key in and twist to the on position anyways. Remote start FTW

My 03 F150 would do this, but my 07 will not, it just starts and revs up. tried it several times trying to play with peoples minds on haloween.

I love this feature... It will probably lengthen the life of the starter...

Holding the accelerator all the way to the floor actually shuts off the fuel supply.

The pedal trick works on most distributor-less vehicles, but I've noticed a lot of the newer ones do like one of the above posters said. My dad's 05 starts and revs up. My 02 cranked and didn't start. Might be a feature manufacturers have moved away from. Used to be a nice way to test starters.
