Does this sound like the serpentine belt to yall???

Hey guys thanks for taking the time to read this..... I searched this many times and couldnt find anything that pinpointed exactly what I am hearing with my truck.
When I start it up everything is normal, when the truck is idle everything is normal, but when i accelerate and get to about 10-15 MPH I hear a squeal. It is not continuous, more like a squeal......squeal......squeal. It keeps doing this while the truck is moving at any speed and when I come to a stop is the squeal slowly goes away! I have no clue what this is and it is about to drive me crazy!! Thanks for the help!

If it only happens when driving, I would guess a wheel being or something similar.

tensioner pulley maybe..

my vote is pulley, rather than the belt.

or maybe a rock stuck in the rotor or caliper, i had that happen before. i think if it was the belt it would do it constantly. you might check the belt tensioner pulley and idler pulleys but i doubt thats it. my tensioner pulley made a whining noise constantly when it started going bad, sounded like the power steering pump was shot.

thanks guys! I dont think its a bearing because i just got one replaced and know what that sounded like.... I just got new brakes as well and this was going on before I got the brakes so I doubt its a rock or anything but I will check. It has to be a pulley then, right??

if ya wanna check em all you need is a 1/2" drive ratchet to loosen the tensioner and then you can spin each pulley and see if its making noise.

i bought a new tensioner at autozone for $30 and went ahead and replaced the 3 idler pulleys for like $15 each i think. very simple DIY project. i would like to mention that my truck is a 4.6 and im not sure if the 5.4 has the same parts.

gdawgs,

Did you get this fixed? Where in GA are you? I might be able to help. Your noises sound like an idler bearing or your belt. Mine was doing the same thing.

I've got a 2006 5.4, did the same thing. Ended up being the idler pully under the alternator and the belt tensioner, both had mud caked in them from getting stuck in the mud when I went off roading with a buddy. Didn't have the time to fix myself, very costly mistake let me tell you. lol Easy to fix though too once you look at it. Might as well throw a new belt on while you are at it.
