Alarm/Remote Start Guys--need input
Alarm/Remote Start Guys--need input
Do any of you guys have problems with your alarm going off when people park too close? I practically live on a college campus and would like to protect my girl, but I'm constantly in parking lots. Would this pose a problem?
If you have a proximity sensor it might. Also if the sensativity is turned up to much loud stereos and exhaust can set it off. I like mine right in the middle. It has yet to go off for an accident. There is an older Beemer I park near in the parking garage at work and half of the cars that go by set off the "warn-away".
Thank you for the reply. I guess I'll just play with the sensitivity.
Anyone know if these are the same?

I really want to buy from Travis since so many members speak highly of him and he has the good instructions, but if these are the same unit then $180 is a huge difference (free shipping @ aap, ~$67 shipping @ KC). I think even with just the factory instructions I could figure it out, despite it taking longer. I'm willing to have a more difficult install for that much difference. I like modding my truck but I'm still a college student on a tight budget.
/\ /\ Forget this /\ /\ --apparently shipping defaults to Next Day Air on Travis' site...
Or is that one from AAP somehow different? What's the VSS (Vehicle Specific ?)?
I know I'll need the PATS bypass...is this it?
I've been looking through the old alarm threads but can't find these answers. If anyone's installed their own without Travis' instructions I'd like some input on how difficult it was. Yetti you have the Viper 5901, correct? Did you install it yourself?
Thanks guys!

I too wanted to go with Travis from hearing all of the great reviews but had to take the cheapest route as well with just graduating college. I do have a 5901 and intended on installing it myself and went to a friends house who used to do some installs and he basically did it all or me. So unfortunately I cannot say I installed it myself but I was there the whole time helping to find wires and I pulled all of the plastic out of the way before tackling it (ie dash kick panel and steering column). I already had the paperwork that had what wires I needed to cut and or tap into and where they were located. I was fairly confident I could do it but I went to his house to make sure if I ran into a snag I was not dead in the water.
Again I appreciate the reply. One thing that has me leaning towards the 5901 is something you mentioned in another older thread. It starts the vehicle up once it hits a certain temperature or if the voltage drops too low. That would be perfect for me because I tailgate a lot and with a stock battery my audio system kills it really quick. My battery is weak pretty as it is so I don't think it would last 2 hours (671's minimum time between restarts).
If I decide not to go with Travis (money issues) and do the install myself, the unit won't matter quite as much. Although I do like that you can wire the 671 into the keyless entry...
Glad to hear that. So if your buddy wasn't around would you have attempted the install yourself? Would you be confident enough to do it based on what you saw in the instructions?
Thanks so much for the help!
Matt

I ended up going with the good old CA 671. I ordered Friday afternoon and by what his website says he should have shipped it out today. Hopefully it will be in soon. I couldn't pass up his instructions. The last thing I need is to screw anything up on my truck during the install.
