I have been looking around at trucks for the past few months and have been searching for a buyers guide on what to look for and what the common problems are. If anyone has input or a link I would appreciate it.

Post up some of the details and we can try and help you out. How many miles? Have the plugs been changed? Supercab (extended) with 6.5' styleside bed I assume. Where are you located. Some parts of the country have trucks at higher than average values. I bought a similar truck a year ago and wish I would have learned more about it at first, I just got lucky with some of my options at the price I paid. For instance, does it have black leather and the full center console and floor shifter? Reverse sensors? Power or manual rear slider if equipped, etc, etc. Post up pics too if you can.

 

81,000 miles, has a brushguard, has rearsliding window, Mickey Thompson wheels, leveling kit, magnaflow exhaust, Red in color, black cloth interior, shifter on the column, FX4. I'll post pictures after I test drive it in an hour. Oh and I'm in Nashville, TN

Well it was a great truck, it needed some touchup paint work done, and a few other small things. The guy was asking 14,500 and wouldn't budge because of the extras that were on it. I asked if he would swap the Mickeys with the stock wheels and take the programmer off I'd give 12,500 cash. I really didn't want any of the extras he had on it. Anyways I'm still looking for around. No pictures cause it was raining

 

As a rule, "EXTRA'S" aren't worth much when selling a used vehicle for the same reason you posted. Usually the add on items are tailored to the individual who put them on, not necessarliy to the person that is buying.
He will have a hard sell if he thinks those extra's are worth alot.
