Installing fender flares
Installing fender flares
Will be installing some egr fender flares today or tomorrow. I've had them for a couple of years (bought them off of ebay) and finally got around to painting them this past weekend to match the arizona beige of my two tone paint job. The paint looks really nice but the color seems a little darker than what's on the truck - more grayish I guess. I sprayed a sample before I started and it seemed to match up pretty good, so maybe once I get them on they will look ok - it's hard to tell without the right lighting and different angles etc.
Anyways, these come with rubber trim that goes on the edges that will contact the fender. Anybody have any recommendations on installing those? The rubber trim was a little bit of a chore to get on but I think I have it now. Did you just let the rubber sit directly against the fender (basically why the rubber is there I guess). The reason I ask is that I read somewhere that even with the rubber, the someones fender got scratched up a little, I just wondered if there's anything I can do to keep that from happening - except buy not installing them.
Thanks

I've never seen the EGR's up close but the factory FX4 and lariat flares don't have a rubber strip to protect the paint and they seem to be fine. I've pulled off my stock flares after 2.5 years and there were some light scratches under the flares but they were well hidden by the flares.
