back off the timing in your tune

new plugs

higher octane gas

sounds like you should be running 91 Premium at a minimum. I'd try to get 93 premium in there

yeah, totally missed that.

suggest you try another gas station then as well. I had an issue with my blower on the F-150. 1 of the local gas stations and it didn't get along. She ping'ed a tiny bit when I used their gas. Never had a problem with the other local stations. so I avoid it like the plague now

Sounds like your tune may need a bit of tweaking.

Also, before I had my hydrolocked engine problem due to my bad 05 injectors I noticed some pinging (detonation) with my pHP 93 tune. After the new short block and all new injectors I have no more pinging on that tune. My pinging could have been caused by the bad injectors. Maybe your injectors need some runs with a blend of gas with techron. Just throwing that out there. :o

The 05 5.4's had a fuel injector issue. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the injectors would malfunction and stay open and dump fuel into the engine.

Heavy carbon build up can increase compression and start detonation where it wasn't occurring before. Knock sensors may not be doing their thing either or not as responsive as they were.

Yes it is an 05 5.4 issue, I was just using that as an example of how my engine was pinging.
