Towing 11,500???

I have an 04 Lariat SuperCrew 4x4. Not sure of my rear end gears but think I have 3.55's. I think max tow is around 9K for my truck but I have a toy hauler that I want to take on 1,000 miles round trip and it weighs 11,500 pounds. I know I'll be slow on hills but can my truck handle it without something breaking?? Whats the most you've towed?

X2. I have a buddy that tried to pull too much weight with his truck. When he hit the brakes, the trailer was too heavy and actually lifted the back wheels off the ground when he was trying to stop. It was hard enough to stop with 4 wheel brakes, but when the back wheels came off, it really did not want to stop. Needless to say, he has not overloaded his truck since then.

First off does your trailer have brakes? That would be a necessity, because getting it moving won't be the issue it will be stopping it SAFELY.

1,000 miles would be too much IMO. Across town at 50 mph max maybe, but not 1,000 miles.

If you have 3.55s you are rated under 9k lbs. Got a transmission cooler?

Ive towed close to 15k with my grandpa's '06 would I recommend it no. But with a properly loaded trailer with brakes ect. 10k is very doable. I tow 9k just about every week with no issues, http://www.ramseyleonard.com/photos/...69_JHkxR-L.jpg I watch my tranny temps and keep a responsible speed to be able to get things shut down. But theres alot of people that shouldn't be allowed to even pull a 6 foot trailer IMO.

Thats funny. I agree with others, 11500 for 1000miles is probably asking too much out of your truck.

With your truck setup... I wouldn't chance it. I have done something verry close to what you are asking about, and about 120 miles in my tranny self destructed. I was only towing 12500 on a flat bed with breaks, with my company's truck (07 F150 supercrew 4x2 with the 3.55 gears, no tranny cooler) Being that it was a comp. truck it didn't bother me much, but if it were my truck.... No way in H3LL. If you value your truck's transmission life, don't do it.

this is what i was towing, a 906 front loader.

Another question for you. Are you going to tow this toy hauler regularly? If you want to do it with this truck (as opposed to trading up for a 3/4 ton) you should consider 4.10 gears, a trans cooler, and definately trailer brakes.

Yeah, I probably wouldn't do it but if you do it 4wDakota has the right idea on what you should get.

if it was flat ground, 500 miles each way it might make it, but you mentioned some hills so i dunno if i would try that. i pulled my 8,000 lb tt through the mountains in colorado, but i only went 200 miles. your motor is bigger and the tranny is probably stronger but thats still a little too risky.

the first picture i can tow with ease, but the second picture is one of our bobcats i have towed it on the red trailer in the first picture with the backhoe attachment it was close to 12.500lbs i do not recommend it the launch from a stop was Very difficult and stopping was a bit easyer due to the trailer brakes but don't really recommend it.

IF its your trailer, sounds like you need to sell the truck and buy a 250.

I hate to rain on your parade but the S220 only weight 7500 and the trailer in the first picture probably weighs in about about 2k, unless it made out of lead lol.

it was probably closer to 12100 or so but im not sure i know the bobcat has an extra 800lbs due to the foam filled tires
but the trailer we had to install a steel deck on top after the wood broke apart so its not a little trailer it's 2500lbs

I wouldn't do it if I were you.
