rear sway bar

rear sway bar

I have a 08 f150 screw fx4 and i just ordered a hellwig 1" rear sway bar. has any body else added a bar to the rear of there truck? if so have you noticed a handeling difference on the highway. i have not received it yet. just wondering if its worth the money. thanks for any input..

I have one I installed on my lowered truck and love it. Makes it handle a lot better. Pretty easy to install also.

thanks Huitt24 a friend of mine added one to his 2004 screw and said it made a big difference on the highway..

I'd like to get one for my truck to cut down on the sway on the turns. Let us know how it goes and take lots of pics on the installation. Also where did you get it?

I found this one here for $220

Interesting, from my experience with the Hellwig bar and the 04-08 trucks. I would have suggested don't do it. Not to knock what these guys found. The bar I installed on my 07 was a total waste of money. There was zero change in handling to my truck. Heck, when I went to install my Maggie SI/SO, I had to remove the bar because the passenger side end link was dead center in the path of the tail pipe.

Installation is really easy. Bar clamps to the axle housing using large u bolts. End links clamp to a cross member, also using u bolts. The only thing you'll find odd about the install is the bar faces the rear.

I've had the Hellwig on for almost 4 yrs now and love it. I've got a long bed that liked to roll over in corners a lot, especially with an empty bed. Don't expect BMW like cornering, it is a truck after all, but cornering was much improved.

As far as taking it off after a few years, it ain't gonna happen. I was under the truck last week painting and thought I'd remove it to touch it up. The nuts and bolts are rusted on, I hit them with PB and a Dewalt cordless impact...nothing. Before you put it on, paint all the parts, treat the threads, etc.

One other note is to not crush the bushings on the endlinks, just snug them up.

got an 05 4x4 super crew. put one on and it was nite and day. easy to do and a pretty cheap mod. to bad the factory does not put one on. no more diving into the corners. more stabile on quick lane changes.

Another vote for not much difference. I have had one for over 2 years on a 2004 4X4 Screw. At first, I noticed more control at highway speeds when going over bridges, pot holes, etc. Before the bar it seemed the backend would kick to the right and that feeling was reduced. I noticed no difference in roll during corning. Since hitting large transitions at highway speeds is a small percentage of driving, my gut said waste of money.

I have since added Billstein 5100's and would say the difference noticed in all driving was 100% better than the sway bar. Unfortunately, I have not take the sway bar off to see if current control is due to shocks or combination of shocks and sway bar.

I've got Bilstein 5100's on it now. They were added well after the bar. Funny but I have the same opinion on the shocks as some have on the sway bar, not much difference. The 5100's are the godsend of shocks, to me they don't live up to that hype. Sure they're definitely better than stock but if I needed to do it over again I would of went with something else.
