The cell phone thing is a farce, too. It's not the use of cell phones, it's the fact that people using them are getting in and out of their cars while pumping gas. Rubbing on the fabric of the seat builds up static electricity. If it discharges while you're pumping gas, that's when you've got a problem.

Very true. I've seen several gas station surveillance camera pictures of that very thing and without a cell phone in sight.
