extended cab or four door?????????
extended cab or four door?????????
I am looking at an 06 fx4 stepside extended cab that is pretty loaded, am i gonna regret not getting a 4 door? I am trying to keep the cost down and get a 4wd with low miles. We just had a baby so a carseat will have to fit. Please throw me your opinions
The only time I regret having a supercab instead of a supercrew is in tight parking spaces. Trying to get the kids into the back seat, with the doors opening opposite ways is a killer. The same was true when they were in carseats.
The only real fix for tight parking spaces is parking out in no man's land...of course, that's a wise move so that you don't end up with the shopping cart dings, too...

Pffftttt! My daughter is 1 yr old an I have an 06 ext cab. She's on her second car seat. Mount the little ones in the middle and when you move him/her up in car seat size. Mines behind the passenger seat. She loves looking out the window.
Never understood this. But full size doors are twice the width of the ext cab doors. SOOO, in tighter places, they wont be bumping into other cars. And when feasible do park away from people and sometimes not. I have NO regrets with the ext cab and a kid.

I always liked the supercabs, but I guess since I don't have a family of my own yet it's a pretty easy decision lol
Figure out if you need the extra room, the super crews have the same rear bench as the supercab, but about 6-7 more inches of legroom. Couple of those are made up by the screws having a little smaller door. (Same front doors as the regular cabs). I find the supercab suicide doors alot easier to put fishing rods in since the whole cab is open

go 4 door. i didnt like the supercrew trucks at all untill i bought this one (i got a sweet deal on it). Now i will never get an extended cab again. Its so much easier having the lil one and the extra doors.
I've got a 13, 11 and 9 year old and they all ride in the back of my ext. cab no prob. It can be a little difficult like NC FX4 SCAB said in parking lots but not 4-5,000 more (est. price diff between scab and screw) difficult.
Like super cab better i have 1 toodler
Hi! I have a Scab, it's true its a little more hard to load your baby in the scab vs.screw but the child grow very quickly and now mine at 3 years get in alone to her baby seat. I only fasten her setabelt.
Most of the time i park far away in the parking lot to avoid shopping carts and dings.
I really need the 6.5bed so screw is not an option for me. also with screw, i can put inside the cab very large items i can not let alone in the bed when i park.

Scab has issues when you have more than 1 kid. Just the 1 kid and the fit is just fine since you can run the seat in the center of the bench.
Screw really has no drawbacks. Yes it has 4 real doors, but when you get down to comparing them against a Scab, the rear doors on either model open the same amount to allow access...and since the Scab are Suicided...it can be tricky getting in/out of the rear.
I had 3 kids in Carseats in my Screw. Front seats all the way back and there was plenty of room. My wife drove it almost Daily for 2 yrs without any issues @ 5'4".
Price always dictates the purchase of course. I personally would get another Screw in a heartbeat...but a Scab at a great price will do the job in a pinch. You'll just run into issues if you have more kids later on down the road

Put your carseat in the Scab and see what you think, that's what I did because like anybody I don't want to spend money I don't need to. But I'm 6'3". It was pretty evident that just wasn't going to work with two kids, and even one was pushing it.
For one kid they will work OK but more kid space is always a good thing. Especially if it is a daily family driver.
The Screw is available with the 6.5' bed in '06 and up and go for less than a shortbox. That is a lot of truck though.
