Exhaust... I know, the classic question
Exhaust... I know, the classic question
BUT I have narrowed it down!
It's for an '08 Lariat 5.4 Supercab, 4x4 6.5ft box. Just picked it up, it's entirely stock and I'm itching to mod it. I've done a crap load of research, looked up youtube and reviews and prices and whatnot, but I'm still undecided. I have it narrowed down to two exhausts. Other forums haven't helped, blah blah blah.
One is the Roush LEGAL kit, SI/DO, duals out the back.
Two is the Magnaflow 16520 kit, SI/DO.
My criteria is simple, I think.
-I drive my truck 60 miles of highway a day to go to school, so I don't want drone or extreme noise, canceling out Slowmaster.
-I tow a 5,000lb camper a few times a year, so it can't be excruciatingly nasty under heavy load. I know rear exits aren't the best, but I can deal with that since it's so seldom.
-I want it to be stainless, and those two are the most reasonably priced stainless kits in the setup I want. Stainless piping, muffler, etc.
-I want it to bolt in and be removable, since I am doing this myself. So no true duals.
-While towing noise isn't a big deal, it shouldn't be so bad that my ears fall off of my head when I tow it an hour plus away to a race track, but just once a year.
-I'm not cutting cats, making true duals, or putting in high-flows!!!!
-I have priced out duals from exhaust shops, they run about the same amount that I can get that Magnaflow kit for from Performance Peddler.
-I drive old people around occasionally. Both of my grandparent's can't drive, and once in a while I have to drive one of them around. So cab noise while cruising should be low, even though my grandfather can't hear anything.
-Mod budget is the price of the Roush kit.
Now, I can't find a good clip of the Roush legal kit, Or a Magnaflow kit that isn't a true dual. I also can't find anyone who has either kit to listen to in person, or pictures or anything of that matter. I'd just like to know which of these two is the best one. Any answer helps other than "search more".
Thanks guys
Btw: here's the truck.

It's actually kinda tame so perhaps this kit might be for you.

I run the roush off road system and love it. I've heard nothing but great things about both so you cant go wrong. My roush setup has been on for a good year and looks the same as it did when I bolted it on in my garage. I dont think you can go wrong with either. Its just what brand do you want, I think the roush is made by Borla, which is a top end exhuast maker as well.
I have the magnaflow on mine and love it, great sound, reasonable price, good warranty. I had a problem with my first magnaflow and they gave me a whole new replacement kit.

The pics in the above thread are what the magnaflow pipes look like after 2 1/2 years of cleveland weather.
The maggie kits use the cheaper 409 stainless on the pipes and the better 304 stainless on the muffler and tips. I think roush (borla) uses the better 304 stuff on the whole kit.

Thanks guys, still sitting here trying to decide. I have the money to order it this week, which I was hoping to do. As it stands right now, that Magnaflow kit might just be the way I go, except with different tips. I don't like rolled edges, so I'd just order a set of Maggie non-rolled tips. Now I just have to decide on 4" or 3.5" tips... lol.
05RedFX4: Just a couple of things. How long is the muffler on the Maggie kit (compared to the Roush, 18")? Same question on the tips... just so I know what to look out for when I get different ones. And I'm not too worried about winter time, We don't have that much of a rust issue like you do in Cleveland. I go to college right now and if there's a threat of nasty weather I get a free day off
. If the road is saltier than Mcdonald's, then I just hose it off when it's warm. And thanks for figuring out on the warranty, even though it was the hard way. Makes me think if I should order it from Performance Peddler or a "reputable" place like Summit (who I've dealt with for years) just for that reason.

AFAIK all the magnaflow kits use an 18" muffler. The pics in my thread are of the maggie pipes which are made from 409, which will eventually rust, wether it will rust thru or not IDK. My first system was 2 1/2 years old and the pipes were very solid, not like they were back in the day when an exhaust would last 1 1/2 to 2 years and it was completely rotted out and in places you could crush like an aluminum can.
When mine broke I found a guy in texas who had the same kit break in the same spot as mine did. He bought from performance peddler and it took him 3 months but he eventually got a new one. I bought mine from http://www.troyerperformance.com/cgi-bin/ppistore.pl and I had my new one in 3 weeks. I discovered the break on july 4, called troyer on monday the 6th, had my new one dropped off by the brown truck on july 28. And troyer will pricematch any legit deal you find, he also carries roush stuff, like exhaust and superchargers. They are located in VA, about 20 miles from the WV border.

Thanks guys
Wound up ordering the Maggie kit, and two slash cut non-rolled 4" tips. Anyone want to buy the two that come on it? It made Bank of America get ahold of me for "irregular activity" for the week, from paying my insurance and ordering this exhaust. Should be here by Thursday or Friday, if it's here either day it's going in ASAP.
