It's possible. All I know is, I doubt I have any significant problems, because I've never gotten any better than what I do.

okay i think its stupid to turn the truck off at a light or whatever, but to those who think you waste more gas on start up, this is typically only true on carbeurated vehicles, fuel injected vehicles actually use less gas upon start up

This is what I do

On the highway windows are always up, a/c gets better mileage than windows down

At red lights I put truck in neutral, that way the engine isn't running against the tranny and brake

Good gas

Good filters

I keep tires pumped up to 45 pounds ( I have 285/70/17 BFG A/T)

slow starts

coast when traffic allows

Don't raise your truck!

I have an edge tuner, CAI (volant), magnaflow siso exhaust, tonno cover, and a 2" leveling kit. All of these combined didn't give me better mileage, but did give me a little more horsepower (which usually eats up fuel mileage)
At 6000 ft I avg 14.5 mpg in combined city/highway driving
5.4 V8,3:73 gears

So you have a better exhaust even though you just said you have something else. What is it, straight pipes, or something else and the tuner is on the way or on the "about to be bought list"?

Oh I meant, new exhaust, then custom tune, let me clear that up. Going to do what I've been saying for a while now, X pipe, and magnaflow 11s.. Yes, on the "about to be bought list." I don't see much point in a custom tune if I already know for a fact I will be redoing exhaust.

Even though it doesn't bother me that my gas mileage is bad, no one is disappointed when they get better gas mileage..

Thanks man.

Do you guys realize all this money you are spending on ups to gain better gas mileage, you could be spending on gas itself? I wouldn't do mods to get better gas mileage, I like to do them because I like to mod stuff. Not to get better gas mileage. I mean just think of how the 5-6-$700 you put into an exhaust system could be a couple months worth of gas for your truck.

Exactly, however, I do not plan on getting rid of my truck so making my self happy with a nice exhaust pleases me so much. The bonus is the truck runs better and gets metter mog. It takes a while to break even, but I just wanted the sound.

You sound like my step dad, lol. MPG's are a side effect from the main goal, more power. Exhausts and intakes alone, don't help either significantly, but with a programmer or custom tune, they really rack up the MPG's and power.

I'm not doing them all for better gas mileage, it's just a acceptable side gain. The main point as 4.6 punisher says, is the more power, and with the Gryphon the extra gauges and digital readouts.

I don't care if I ever break even on it to be honest, it will ONE day.

No doubt, if I wanted true money out of a modification, I'd drop it a little, put smaller wheels, tires, si/so exhaust, etc.

My dad tells me that same thing all the time. Thats where I got it from. Its just like some people buying little scooters that get 100 MPG. You spend the $2-3000 on this scooter and have to pay extra insurance and everything that you could be spending to fuel the vehicle that you have already.

Mods are a waste. High MPGs are all about driving style.

The only "mods" I have are a soft tonneau cover which I bought to store stuff more than for gas mileage. I also run Motorcraft semi synthetic if you can call that a mod.

I have always gotten at least 17mpg. I can get 18-18.5 driving around downtown New Orleans if I use a light foot. Now I get 20-21 by driving rural roads.

Accelerate sslow, keep the rpms under 1,500 when accelrating and try to keep the speed under 70.

BTW, my truck is an 06 S-Crew 5.4, auto, 3.73s, and 18" chrome pahage wheels with stock BFG long trail T/As
