I've come to the conclusion that intake and exhaust kill your mileage because your foot is always on the pedal to hear the nice sound they make. At least that's my problem.

I'm bored with my exhaust sound, so I don't really get on it much, but the exhaust setupI have is murder.

x2

I purposely refrain from checking the mileage on my F-150 for the sole reason that I don't want the realization of how bad it really is to detract from my enjoyment of the sound of my MagnaFlows.....

The best gas saving device for these truck's is your right foot. Run the speed limit or 2 to 3 mph under. Keep rpms under 2000 as much as possible. I run a hundred miles a day on my round trip to work and have no problem getting 16-18 mpg. Also keep the tires aired up.

Didn't you have a thread exactly like this about a month ago? The wheels and tires are the problem, like we told you back then.

He didn't say there was a problem. But yes, stock would do better.

I drive smoothly and always stay under 2k rpms. I coast whenever possilble always coast to stop lights and nearly 99% of the time I am able to avoid stopping. It's all how you drive man. I love low rpm exhuast tones so I have no problem staying out of it. I can't beat on vehicles so it pays of for me. I do almsot all city and get 17mpg consistenly.

Thanks guys, minus ones I won't mention.

My TRUE real problem is just the short trips, every day I crank up drive 3.6 miles, sit for a few hours, drive 3.6 miles back home.. Short trips murder, or at least in winter, not sure about summer conditions though.

That's how mine are. 3.9 miles to work. So I take a longer route on the way home to run the truck... about 10 miles.

Yeah, it makes a big difference. I have a very steady foot and it shifts up early so I have it at or just below 1k rpms at 30... saves gas

Here's how I managed to get a whopping 24.7 MPG on a full tank of gas:
  1. Fold your mirrors in
  2. Replace all your fluids with synthetics. Some already are like the read diff.
  3. Get a tonneau cover (I gained 2 MPG instantly with my LT Sport Cover)
  4. Over-inflate your tires (use caution and stay 5-10 psi below max)
  5. Plan your trip so you can hold 45-50 MPH wherever you go, or streets that have adequate timing on the lights to drive at a constant speed
  6. Accelerate like you are in slow motion; the analogy of an egg under the pedal is an understatement
  7. Drop your truck if you can, at least 3" up front and 4" out back
  8. Plan your deceleration by anticipating stop lights and going into neutral at least 500' before the intersection
  9. Keep your vehicle clean and waxed, right down to the chrome (yes, a slippery truck is a lower friction truck)
  10. Remove the antenna
  11. Contrary to popular belief, keep the tailgate on and in the locked position
  12. Replace the bearing grease with hi temp white lithium grease
  13. Intake and exhaust are a must
  14. Do not run air conditioning at all
  15. Make sure your truck is properly aligned
  16. Wheel size is not as important as wheel weight; get the lightest tire/wheel combo you can

That did it for me. Of course the rest of the time I'm getting 17 because I'm in the throttle too much. A blower does that to you.

Holy shnikies, that's awesome. I'm going to try some of those and just see what happens!
