Driver Window Problems

First off, I figure that my problem is the regulator. But, before I bust into any work I wanted to post on here and see what you guys thought about it.

My window has been doing this all summer, now but it still is working. When i press the button to go down it always works. When i press to go up sometimes its completely unresponsive, sometimes it hesitates for a few seconds then rolls up, sometimes it rolls straight up. There are times where I have to press the button 2-3 times before the window will actually start to roll up. Usually once it starts to roll up it will go completely, but there are a few times where it will stop while the button is still held down.

Is this the regulator? If so how much is it going to run me, and I have quite a bit of knowledge of working on vehicles, is it something I can replace on my own?

Its the switch. The same thing happened to me like a month ago....down always worked, but I'd have to hit the up button like 4 times atleast to get it working. I hat it covered under warranty, but I think the part is like $60 or $70.

Very common problem. Try cleaning the contacts first before buying a switch.

Sweet, i had tried to tell dad that it was the switch, but had said no and to post on here asking if it was the regulator. From the symptoms i figured it was the switch. Thanks guys!

What do you recommend cleaning them with? Would applying some dielectric grease after they're clean help to keep them from having to clean it this often?

Tell Dad that I'm older than him so he can believe me. Had the same symptoms, had the switch replaced under warranty and the problems went away.

Just my .02 but I have had to fix numerious switches for the same thing. The contact inside actually bends a little and is not making contact like it should. If you have a warranty still then just have them replace it but there is a possibility of the issue coming up again. You can fix it for free. If you remove the switch and pop the top off the rocker switch you can see the contacts inside. If you take a thin flat screw driver you can actually bend the end of the tab back to its proper position.

One time i had to replace the same kind of switch on a Lincoln 3 times in about 2 months and mercury kept replacing it under warranty. I just shook my head and took the new switch and installed it for the customer.

Well unfortunately I'm no longer under warranty, but I will take a look at it and see what I can do about fixing it. I'm sure it can't be to difficult. Glad that the fix wont be to bad, need to fix my kc's this weekend so i might as well just pop off the door panel and take a look at it.
