E85 stinks, stinks, stinks,

I am getting 2.14 less MPG's using flexfuel. It is only 30 cents cheaper than gasoline. The government should give those of us that can use e85 some kind of incentive like a tax credit or bigger savings cause 30 cents cheaper a gal. is not going to cut it.

E-85 is only good for two things, shuttin up the tree huggers, and its a very cheap race fuel.

I look for the price to be roughly 25% less than the cost of e10 to save enough to make up for the loss in gas mileage. With gas at $2.50 that is roughly $0.62/gal, so I would look to get e85 for $1.88 to make it worth my while.

I think break even is about 20%, which would be $2.00/gal. That's a big difference in price just to break even.

Not truck related, but I know a few guys locally running E-85 combos on supercharged Mustangs. One is a 2005 with a F-1 Procharger, makes around 700 to the rear wheels.

Actually, Jon is a member of this board too. He has an 08 FX4. I'll try and get him to post up!

E85 would be a good way to get away from foreign oil, but engines would have to be specifically made to run E85 with higher comp ratios. And it would have to be cheaper than what it is right now.

I disagree. The government should stop trying to push E85.

Only if it were not made from corn. Corn ethanol production is inefficient, damaging to the enviroment, competes directly with food production, and couldn't possibly be made in great enough volumes to meet our needs.

Not so sure a truck forum is the best place to talk about getting away from foreign oil anyway.

FAIL
WHY? so we can further drive up Food prices and keep on subsidizing the corn industry to keep a stupid Gov't policy in place regarding ethonal based fuels
until we do something like Brazil and other South American companies to get a more viable Ethanol source, it is worthless. Roughly 1% of corn results in useable ethanol. The rest is a wasted byproduct. Horribly inneficient

This is the best way to make ethanol and biodiesel.

Yeah, but why would the Government ever do anything smart. They are all crooked and thieves and liars.

Edit, who took my picture down

Corn based ethanol is an epic fail.........like others have said, very inefficient to make, and it has put a lot of livestock producers out of business and directly affects food prices.....
