Looking over to the dark side tomorrow
hey guys im in love. lol. i spotted this truck on the way to work today. i stopped in and had a looksy.
here it is. i made the mistake of not asking what it was lol. anyone know the model??
two problems, dont know how many miles, ac is not working, no compressor/pump.
heres my story;
i am quitting racing (quad mx), i have started cleaning everything up. its going up for sale. i will prob get 6grand for everything. i have an 05 f 150 which i could prob get 7500 for. i plan on selling everything and turning this truck into my daily driver with some ballls, making this truck my new hobby. i could prob get the truck with everything working for 7.
also, i am tired of lugging around my friends, now theres enough room for my lady friend and myself.
i know:
Chevy
'72
has a 350
2 barrel carb
aftermarket power steering
aftermarket disk front brakes
aftermarket rims and tires
bench row front seat
has ac with no pump.
auto trans
i would like to add:
*same rear wheel, however wider and maybe a little taller.
*bags, not slammed. i would like it to sit how it is now when the bags are filled, and maybe 4 inches lower dropped. (switches installed in dash with factory looking switches, if i cant get factory switches, hiding them somewhere.)
*orange neon
*roll cage, look factory, painted orange, no hacking.
*sound system, maybe two tens under seat, 5x7's in the door, head unit in the glove box.
*freshen up the motor (if its not) and add some liquid HP.
*no window tint, i want ppl to see a 16 year old driving a sexy 72 that he paid for with his own cash
here are some pics (taken from cell)

looks fun, but i would keep your truck as a DD and have this as a toy. i did the exact same thing your doing, sold my 06 yz250f and bought a 75' toyota fj40 that im building, it actually had a chevy 350 in it when i got it. ive worked on a few 70 model chevy's there very straight forward but would never consider one for a DD.
if you do get it, id look into a motor swap to a ls motor and fuel injection and get rid of a carb
and when you say you would pay for it with your own money, who paid for your quad and your truck? im not trying to rag on you or anything im just curious? selling things your parents bought you doesn't count IMO

I dont think this is a good move. I think your giving up a lot for what your getting. Plus having a daily driver on bags isnt that dependable. Maybe sell your quad, then save a little bit to buy something as a "hobby" and keep driving your f150 as a daily. If you have a daily you will be able to do a lot more to the other "fun" vehicle. Its hard doing major work on any vehicle when its you only means of transportation. Thats a nice looking truck though.
truck, my mom traded her suburban (i think it was an 01??) which we got like 3300. my truck cost 7500, i paid the difference. plus i pay 1000 a year for insurance, not bad i guess considering its 2100 a year lol.
quad, mother bought me a 400ex years ago for 3000. i built it up and sold it for 3700 (i had paid out about 2000 in parts =(). i paid difference for my 450 which was 1050.
not bad being for being 16. i have always been a worker though, i like to have money. i like to play.
Here's my deal with that truck. i want the motor stock. I am a pretty decent mechanic, i trust myself breaking one down. i want a reliable motor. these trucks handle like race cars (or so i was told), but wont compare to my newer truck as far as comfort. i want to hold on to my pickup until i can get this thing right (if its not already) and turn it into a daily driver. i want a show truck. like i said i fell in love.

very nice little hobby truck your looking at. however as a DD, you want something that is newer since it is less likely to brake down... older vehicles are great, easy to work on, and are fun toys, but you dont want to HAVE to work on your daily driver every night just so you can drive it to work the next day.... sure you can fix it, but you dont want to pay out more money when you HAVE to, to keep it running. Put that money into your ford in accesories and you'd have one awesome truck.
having both trucks would be best. use the ford to get parts for the chevy...

I think this truck would be alright, but if you sell your truck and your quad, then you are limited to mods you can, I know I have almost not been able to do somethings and probably would not have without paying to have it done but I have access to a lift, so my dd gets work done over the weekend or nothing ya know? Just an idea
that is very true. i could have had an awesome rig for what i have spent on my fj40 so far, probly had a very well built rockcrawler, but the knowledge i am gaining i cant argue w/ and ill have basically a brand new 34 year old vehicle when i am done that will be pretty good offroad.
idk im still iffy. im going to look at it tomorrow (prob on my lunch break) and am gonna get some better pics. i need to know about the motor.
couple things im lookin for,
quality of paint
rust on frame
rust anywhere really
what else?

you can pick up a new 350 crate (using your intake, carb, exhaust you already have) for about $1500 bucks. depending on the price of the truck, dont let certain things be a deal breaker.
do you have access to a welder? or will you have to pay to get any welding/ body work done? what tools do you have? or you need to buy? it adds up
check the wiring harness, alot of hte times its a POS and ghetto, a good wiring harness from what i have seen is $350 and up and if you have no knowledge with wiring it can be a PIA.
but ofcourse if you get a vehicle w/ none of these problems its gonna be expensive as hell, so really you need to know what you can and can't do yourself and find a vehicle based on the things you can fix yourself or afford to pay to have done.

rust on frame would make me turn away, if its just a little on say the rear of the frame it can be fixed pretty easily. on the body check the bottom edges of the cab, floor pans.
