Truck Getting Harder to Start????
Truck Getting Harder to Start????
As we get into the hotter times of the year, and with TX being in a ridiculous heat wave this year, my truck is starting to get a mind of its own when it comes to starting up.
When I turn the key, its a slow crank. Almost like a dead battery. Volt meter is showing good reading on the Gryphon, the HID's, stereo, etc all run fine and seem to be ok.
I know that one of the symptoms of leaky injectors is hard starts, but its still getting the same mileage as it always has and runs perfect once it gets going. The remote start even has to crank a little longer.
I'm worried that its either the battery or starter, but I have no idea which to start with or try. It just seems to be getting harder to start as time goes on and as it gets hotter outside.
Any ideas?

Since you have an 05 and I'm assuming you have a 5.4, I would be concerned with the injectors. Mine was doing funny things for a bit, like hard starts. I had an injector hang open on me while driving and I had to pull over. Had it towed to the dealer and when they tried to start it the next morning it hydrolocked, breaking a rod. I got a new short block via Ford Customer Satisfaction Program 07M08.
Here is a .pdf copy of the injector letter, in case you don't have one.

I'm well aware of the injector issue and I really don't think is the problem. The truck works and drives PERFECT other than the weird starting issues. I have the injector letter already. I have stayed in very close watch of everything and there is no other odd issues other than this starting problem. No excessive fuel usage, no smells, no black exhaust at first start up like a lot have experienced, no other issues whatsoever.
I understand that there could be a slight chance, but given that this is the only problem and I drive this truck nearly 500 miles a week, I would think that more symptoms would start or other things would come up.

Mine was running fine too, until one day it took a sputtering turn for the worse. Good job on keeping an eye on the issue though. I was too, and I knew exactly what it was when it happened.
