Exhaust tip rust...

Anybody else see a small amount of what appears to be rust just inside their exhaust tip - first few inches? Is this normal? 2006/45,000

For stock exhaust or aluminized steel rust will happen especially in your climate...

My muffler is rusting too... everyone's muffler rusts out in salt/snow belts, unless you got something special...

I've been wanting to put the staxx back on, but I'm thinking of getting one of those polished stainless exhausts... as they supposibly last forever even with salt.

Yeah, basically the entire stock exhaust system under my truck is covered in rust which is why a new exhaust is on the way!

I'm talking about even on the inside when looking into the exhaust... some, a little, rust on the bottom on the inside so that when it first condensates, a little rusty water comes out...

More than likely that is coming from the muffler.

Stainless steel does not last forever just last longer and is more rust resistant then anything else. You still need to clean and polish them to make them last. My tips have a small hole in the end of the tip since they are a roled end to allow the water condisation to drip out.

You'll get plenty of rust if you make short trips, especially if you leave yours outdoors. That includes stainless. Remember, stainless is still welded together with plain ole steel.

Get the exhaust nice and hot. It will last twice as long.

yeah, ive got the same problem in my chrome tips with the rolled edges. talked to a muffler shop today, but he pretty much just wanted some money. so im going to cut my tips off, then go to autozone and buy the longer stainless steel tips for 19.99 ea. and weld those on myself. there should be just enough room on the pipe to clear the hanger support for the pipe.
