Dang

Pretty sure my gas mileage has gone in the ****ter with the level and new wheels and tires.. Those damn 3.55 gears .. So I'm looking into getting a tuner very soon. PHP Gryphon and running the canned 87 tune for a while. Will it help me at all with gas mileage or am I wasting my time and money until I get the custom? It shouldn't be THAT much worse I wouldn't think? But it is more wind resistance from being higher and it is more weight from 20s and 32s.

You're surprised that your mileage went straight down? I thought everyone knew that bigger wheels and tires drastically effects gas mileage. A programmer will help, but a better gear ratio will help a lot more.

I think everyone is going to say the exact same thing i'm about to.

If you go bigger than stock, you cant expect as good economy as before.

My mpg stats have changed hardly at all because i'm still running stock tires. The only noticed difference was my 18.4mpg highway is now 20.4mpg, otherwise general driving is the same ( again, stock size tires ). Bigger tires will always have their tole on economy, nothing can be done about it its physics. My 2" level has only hurt my economy in the 55mph - 65mph range as i'm sure it has modestly also affected other 4wd trucks.

Unless you can get it done as a favor, or really really cheap, I do not see changing your gear size a necessary swap right now, if you one day follow through with your lift plans, I would then have it changed to 4.30 or 4.56. Going from 3.55 to say 3.73 would help minorly, but not enough to justify the install cost imo.

your tires are not that big, if you plan on going bigger on the lift and tires just wait until you do that and put in some 4:10's but if not i say 3:73s should get the job done nicely

Leveling and lifting will mean less mileage and wider, heavier wheels and tires take a huge bite. I lost almost 1 1/2 mpg when I went with the 305/50/20s over the stock set up. It's the price I pay for the look I like.

I'm surprised it's gone through the floor lol. I expected .5-1mpg at most

I agree completely with you, but as I said before. I just didn't think it'd go through the floor. If I could install gears myself, it'd be worth it because I can pick up some gears for around 100.

Yeah, but i'm not sure it's worth the price it'd take forever to pay for itself.

After I leveled my 2wd and put on 33's I just quit checking mpg, solved that problem. lol

Also did you figure the larger tires that put less miles on you odometer, which means its putting less miles on your truck? I think my 33's are like 6% less then stock.

remember you drive a truck, its going to get a crap gas mileage to begin with so just dont worry to much about it because anything you do will be a minimal mpg gain anyways, i just stopped payin attention to my gas guage although i know i probably get some of the worst gas mileage on this site

That's true, so wouldn't I be getting better than I think?

Yeah, if you didnt figure for the few miles your odometer is off, then your mpg is probably a hair more than you figured. There are a few tire calculator sites that can tell you the difference it will make on your speedo.

Heres one that will tell you the difference: http://www.1010tires.com/tiresizecalculator.asp

How much did your mileage drop exactly? You keep saying it took a dive but haven't mentioned how much it went down

Only thing, you gotta remember the added weight reduces also.

Well, I had gotten 14 one tank and then I drove around 90 miles and I got around 13.6. So I don't really know about a full tank, but from eye balling what I usually get per 1/4 I'm around 10 or so short.
