I think everyone who's changed plugs went back to motorcraft. Something about spark gaps and COP temps being off with other brands. Just going from memory here.

Far as oil, royal purple here as shot up in price around 50% for some reason on everything. Heck just the standard 5w-20 is nearly $9/quart while Mobile 1 is near half the price. I don't get it. Anymore I just go with a name brand full synthetic. Far as the ATF I take mine to this local oil change service station and have them do it.

you'll need Mercon V for your trans, and ive trusted Castrol, with a decent price from Autozone or Walmart. You can also get the filter from AZone as well.

your 2005 has the old old spark plugs. PZT2F. You want to install the Motorcraft PZT1F plugs. They are 1 heat range colder...and since the 2006 models, that is what Ford has been installing in the 5.4 3v.
I'd avoid the Champion plugs...if you go aftermarket, get the Autolite plugs. But the OEM brand seems to actually be the best as of right now.

btw, good luck on the changeout

edit: whoops, just realized you meant the trans oil

From what I read those with mods are suggesting people go with brisk and then second would be champion.

Can you tell me why you are suggesting going back to motorcraft plugs?

I'm just curios because I'm about to attempt changing my plugs with 59k miles and have a CAI, Dual exhaust and soon to be tuner.

Several people (myself included) went with the Champion 7989 one-piece plugs. Folks seem to like bad mouthing the Champion plugs but I haven''t had any problems with them after several thousand miles. The plugs were gapped correctly out of the box and the COPs don't seem to notice the difference. Just my $0.02 worth.

The Champions seem to be hit or miss

some have no issues...and some have nothing but issues. Cast your ballot as you will, but I personally don't like the headache of dealing with bad plugs.

Sorry man, link won't work for me. Work has alot of stuff blocked pretty heavily

but if it is a Motorcraft plug with PZT1F, then that is the correct plug

here are the proper plugs

the ones you are listing don't seem to be correct. I wonder if those are the new 1-piece for the 2008+ 5.4 3v...or maybe the "Platinum" part is why the part # is not matching up.

I know for a fact 100% that these are the correct plugs for a 2004-2008 (early build) 5.4 3v

PZT1F
SP-462
Had them in hand when I did the RoushCharger on my 2006 F-150. Ended up selling them instead though since my motor already had the "new" plugs.

I've had the Champion plugs in my truck for about 2500 miles and it runs great, it actually runs better then it did with the Motorcrafts. Personal preference really, if you go with the Ford plugs don't forget the anti-seize on the sleeve and all will be good.
