Add-A-Leaf Installation

Hey, I just bought my AAL springs, just wondering the best way to get the spring clamp on the ends of the existing springs off? Do you bend it, or can you just slide it towards the ends of the leafs?

Thanks.

Man it's been a while since we done mine. Don't do anything yet till someone pops in that remembers cause leaf spring can be quite dangerous if you let that stored kinetic energy loose.

If your truck is the same generation model as my 05 then the spring clamps are welded/riveted in. The only way to get the leaf pack apart is by either bending them out, cutting them off and I have heard that you can heat the rivet up till it pops but I'm not too sure about that. I bent mine. Let me tell you they are a PITA to get back on. You will need a torch to heat them up and bend them back in place. If I had it to do over again I would just cut mine off and install a new set. Or better yet I would have bought the shorter AAL that doesn't require removal of the spring clamps! Be sure you have some large C clamps to compress and decompress the pack. Make sure you have all the weight off the springs and the axel dropped before trying to remove things further.
