Instrument Cluster Plexiglass cracks

Have an 06 and plexi-glass is cracking. Starts at bottom and gradually works upward. My 97 did the same thing. Is this a common 150 problem? How to stop it? How to replace it? Any thoughts appreciated.

never heard of that and my 06 intrument cluster plastic is fine.......

I would go to the dealer and see if they sell that cover as a subassembly of the guage cluster, hopefully they do and it's not to much money.

Stop punching your instrument cluster and it will stop breaking, lol...

I'm not sure how easy it is to get the plexiglass out, but you could to to Lowes and buy a small sheet of plexi, cut it, then install it. Probably be 20 times cheaper than goin to a dealer. Or you could snag one from a junkyard.

I'm pretty sure the plexi is curved.

Snagging one from the junk yard is probably your best bet. I'm fairly certain they sell the cluster as a complete unit at the dealer.

Or you could try Ebay and buy a cheap STX cluster and just swap out the plexiglass

Thanks for bursting my bubble! And I thought I actually had a good idea for once lol. I just went out and looked, never even noticed it was curved. Junk yard would probably be your cheapest bet then.

I've never had the plexiglass on my instrument cluster crack on any vehicle I've owned -- sounds like a self-inflicted problem to me......

Thanks for the comments, folks. At least it isn't something that happens to everyone. On my 97, I purchased it in 2000 with a single crack comming up from the bottom. It grew with time. A couple years ago, another started and grew. Just sold the truck with 2 cracks about 3in long. I notice the 06 cluster starting to crack it's about a half inch high. I just bought the dang thing 2 mos ago and the warranty expired 18 May, sigh...

Just noticed a crack in my 97' cluster plexiglas today.

The crack was not there a week ago.

It is also originating towards the bottom working upward and is just left of the steering column. Based on my Haynes manual, looks like it may be originating from one of the screw down points for the Plexiglas cover.

Replacement looks like it should not be a big issue once I can find a replacement. If anyone knows a part number please post. Second hand may be hit or miss as far as scratches etc… I have had some luck with the polish I use on my Jeep windows in clearing up other cluster covers.

I have had a small dead bug inside the cluster for a few years so I guess that issue will finally get resolves also.....

Will post again when I find the part and do the replacement........

My Dad was cleaning the our old Windstar's interior one day, and he used something that discolored the plexiglass on the cluster, and he went to the dealer, and they replaced the plexiglass for $80. It wasn't bad at all.

New Plexi

Called my local dealer yesterday and they said this is a part that can be replaced.

Quoted cost was $23.00.

One is on the way to the dealer and I should get it Wednesday or Thursday of this week.

Will post a Part # and any comments about the replacement process once it comes in.
