Who's hyper, not me, what I'm saying when I put mine on back in 06 and I had to go do my emissions test it was virtually the same as in the year that I didn't have the intake. There are about 15 04 thru 07 owners in the local club here that have CAI's and none to my knowledge had a problem. Most eventually bought tuners and only one that I know of bought custom tunes. In my case the edge worked fine. The only thing I tweaked on that is a little timing and shift points. I am at nearly 6000 FT above sea level which is a big difference too.
But back to the original question, IMO the SB/Volant intake is about the best you can get. It is truly a sealed unit from the engine compartment, especially with the addition of the ram air mod that I did. I have seen open CAI's that were completely soaked when mudding or fording streams.

Troyer ran dynos back in 2005 or so, and posted the results. At the time, he was the main tuner of these trucks and he pointed out that you can be running lean and never know it. It can take time but damage can be done. It was his advice to get custom tunes on the 2004s and 2005s. If, I remember correctly, when PHP came on the scene, Bill, varified the same thing. It does not mean you must have custom tunes but I for one will not take the chance. The 5 or so HP delivered by a CAI without a custom tune is hardly worth the cost or the risk.

Last time I give this ***** advice. And if I were to work for any of the custom tuning companies, it would be PHP because they are based in GA.

Power Hungry Performance makes awesome custom tunes, but they're ultra back logged right now. The Gotts Intake mod is definitely the best cost/performance intake you can ever buy, only like $12.
