Hey Guys,

New user here, recently converted from the Dodge Forums. I bought an 07 SuperCrew 4X4 and the headlights are on whenever the truck/ignition is on, regardless of the switch position in the cab. No Fog Lights, nothing added.

Is that just the way the 07's are, or do I have something odd lurking? I know many other cars are wired for always on headlights, and its not causing any issues, just curious as I see many other F150's that dont have the lights on all the time, but they could be other years as well.

Sounds like someone added daytime running lights. They could be added aftermarket as an accessory from Ford. Otherwise they would not be on.

 

Not sure if it is an option from the factory but I know I ahd it added to my truck because I always forgot to turn off my lights when I got out and killed the battery one time doing it. Unfortunately that was the day after i got the truck and 3 days alter I had DRLs, Dead batteris in the middle of a parking garage is no fun at all.

Basically if my ignition is set to "ON" then my lights are on, if the Ignition is off I can use the little **** on the left side of the wheel to turn on just the marker lamps or to turn on everything.

 

Thanks for the quick replies. So, if DRL's were added somewhere along the line, any ideas on how I go about reversing it? I havent looked under the dash or hood for any aftermarket looking wiring, but I assume its something that could be reversed.

My original search didnt catch it because I wasnt searching for the right thing. After seeing more links pop up on the same topic, seems like I have the DRL set up on my truck. I'll go after it from that angle.

I never had a problem with my Dodge, 2005 Dodge Dakota SLT 4.7. It had more power than my F150 but I was forced to sell it because I needed a bigger truck that could support a plow on it.

 

If you live in Canada they are required. If you live close to the northern border maybe you bought a Canadian F150. If that's still not it then maybe the previous owner did modify them to run all the time.

 

I posted this pic in another thread but here it is again.

Just behind the drivers side headlight you"ll find the DRL resistor on the rad support. Just unclip the wire harness from it and your daytime lights will stay off. Everything works as normal for my truck. I also taped the exposed connector ends shut and tied the wire back.

 

be weird not having day time running lights haha. it been law for so long, since early 90's i believe

 

Do you have something on your dash covering the light sensor?

 

Actually, the little relay on the radiator support next to the driver's headlight trick fixed it. I still have working headlamps on all the other settings, just not on 100% of the time.

No laws against it in Kansas, so I am good with it! Thanks overlimit!
