Very weird noise, sounds like transfer case is grinding
Hey all, I have had a noise from under my truck that sounds like the transfer case hasn't fully disengaged from 4 wheel drive. It sounds like a card in bicycle spokes. The only thing I can trace it back to is my programmer and a Recall Notice I haven't had applied to my truck.
I say its the programmer because I have done a lot of reading and took Bluejay's settings for his Evo and applied it to mine and viola, noise. I know it isn't the 4 wheel drive because I haven't used it in a few weeks.
It happens at random at any speed and stops after I firmly apply the brakes, hence my thinking about the Brake Booster Vacuum Hose replacement Recall notice and it having something to do with the Edge Evo. I looked up the notice by VIN, so I can't be to far off.
Any insight would be appreciated.

I'm with FordRacer on the tune part - I can't see how a tune would cause this problem. I know I'd sure get the booster vacuum hose replacement taken care of pronto!
Interesting you say the noise stops after a firm application of the brakes. At least in the old days, self-adjusting brakes were "adjusted" by a firm application while backing. This is not talked about anymore, so I don't know if it still applies. But, it sure sounds like something in the braking system (nothing to do with tuning) and I'd try to get it fixed.

just a thought, it is common prank round here, have you looked for zip ties around your driveshaft of anything that spins.
Just a thought

I lol'd at that, Im young so I guess its still funny cause its new to me =p. Goin to have to try that.
yea i am still in school, so...., i might go bout 500 of them and just start wraping them around every d-shaft in the lot, but that will probly get me in trouble,(who cares)
It is something with the transmission/transfer case, maybe not with the tune, but something tells me it has to do with that brake booster thingie, just a matter of deduction. Either way, I have an appointment with the Ford dealer to have it dealt with. It is really irritating because I haven't hit the 32K mark on the truck. The last time I heard anything like that was on my Chevy 2500HD work truck, but then again, I drive it like I stole it. I figure I didn't pay for it and I have a job to do, the terrain just gets in the way.
