Hard to Start and Runs Rough w/ENG LT On

I have a 2005 F150 that is out of warranty. Just recently it takes about 15 seconds of cranking to start. Then it idles rough and runs rough. The ENG light is on steady. I have gone thru 3 tanks of gas and no change. I have changed the gas cap. I can disconnect the battery and reconnected it and it will start the first time just fine and runs ok for awhile then it starts running rough again. Turn it off and then try to restart it and it takes 15 seconds of cranking. Should I go get a code reader and see what the code is or does someone have a suggestion? Really trying to avoid the high dealership rates.

Better have someone check your injectors. With that year you should have gotten a letter about them.

injectors, Coil OP ect... what code are you getting?

Stop drivin it asap, your injectors are screwed, its warrantied for a while, if you drive it it may Hydrolock

Sounds like an injector issue. My engine seized up at the dealer, broke a rod due to an injector hydrolocking the engine. Got a new short block.

Thanks to all that have replied to my mesaage. My truck only has 30,500 miles and the codes I was getting was P0175 and P0300. I tokk it ot he dealer and they really shockem with this statement. I was told that there was 1 injector stuck inthe open pos. and they would replace it free. The damage done due to this would be on my tab to pay. they told me that I needed the carbon cleaned out of the throttle body, the intake, the cylinder tops, the valves, the EGR valve, the MAF sensor, needed new plugs, new computer software and calibration, and should have the catalytic converter replaced. I told them why should I pay if their faulty injector caused the prob. I was told that this is the policy. Well I short cut them by informing them that I already checked the EGR, the throttle body, the intake, checked the MAF sensor, replaced the plugs, and there was no carbon and told them that 36 miles with an intermittent injector is not going to damage your catalytic converter. I think Ford dealers are hurting for business and money. Any way the truck runs great with the new injector only and I will start any new repairs in the future right here with F150 Online.

Read the injector extended coverage letter, I posted it above. Print the injector letter and take it to the dealer. They are obligated to repair any damage that the stuck injector caused.

When I had an injector stick open my truck never threw a CEL, but pulled a P0175 code. My truck hydrolocked and broke a rod. I got a whole new short block installed for free. I paid for nothing, everything was covered.

This isn't a dealer issue, it's a Ford Motor Company issue. If your dealer doesn't understand, call Ford Customer Service and explain what the dealer is and isn't doing. The dealer is obligated to fix your truck, it's all in the letter.
