Oh, I know, MT. I'm not arguing with you, I'm just putting the info out there.

Transmissions are just like any other moving part, if you take care of it, it will take care of you (most of the time). I've towed a uhaul once and and a bass tracker once. I'm no hot rod. My transmission is great, performs like new. I've had the fluid changed out of the TC twice, once to replace a bad seal (warranty) and the latest when I got the short block. I am not going to wait to have service, peace of mind.

Great, I just bought an 05 F150 FX4 with 55K miles having tranny shift issues. I drove it 10 days with no problems and now it shifts straight to 3rd and 4th sometimes on light accel from stop and then hesitates badly because it's going so slow in highest gear. WTH? MT, I'm a bit more depressed now thank you! Just jokin. Thanks for the post. What the hey, I have a 30K warranty on the tranny and they said when that runs out I can pay to have it flushed and automatically receive another 30K warranty, and keep doing this every 30K if I choose. Same deal for engine. They better stand by that.

HEY RittsFX4, I took my truck in immediately when this started and they updated PCM and said this updates the TCM automatically also. However, this didn't fix my issue at all. I read your post some place else concerning this and asked them the next morning if they would update the TCM instead since you said this fixed yours and they told me the PCM update "bleeds" into the TCM also. Is this correct???

I found a TSB that describes similar symptoms I'm having dealing with TCM and mentioned this to them but they ignored me I think. I'm wondering if my TCM needs replacing and they just don't want to do it because my truck is so new. Maybe if I deal with it for a few months they will then make me pay for one. My warranty is on tranny, but I'll bet it doesn't include the TCM. Not sure. Where is the TCM?

I will stop by and see my buddy tomorrow and ask him about this.

I bought the truck in March with 26K on the clock after my '04 was totaled. The truck was serviced before I bought it. I made them show me the paperwork on everything done. Nothing out of the ordinary and the Oasis report is clean as was Carfax plus it's a Ford Certified Pre Owned. It's just now got over 32K on the clock. As soon as I can leave work early one day this week or next, its going to the dealer.

My '08 F150 was doing the same thing since new. I suggested that the dealer take a look at this TSB. They reflashed the PCM and it hasn't done it since.

TSB 08-14-03

2007-2008 F-150/MARK LT BUILT BETWEEN 12/4/2006 TO 5/20/2008 ONLY - ENGINE RPM FLARE DURING 3-4 UPSHIFT UNDER LIGHT THROTTLE ONLY - 5.4L 3V / 4R75E ONLY
SOME 2007-2008 F-150 AND MARK LT VEHICLES BUILT BETWEEN 12/4/2006 TO 5/20/2008, EQUIPPED WITH A 5.4L 3V AND 4R75E, MAY EXHIBIT AN ENGINE RPM FLARE DURING LIGHT ACCELERATION DURING THE 3-4 UPSHIFT. THIS WOULD ONLY OCCUR AT ROAD SPEED RANGES FROM 25-30 MPH (40-48 KM/H). NO DTCS OR OTHER DRIVABILITY OR TRANSMISSION ISSUES WOULD BE PRESENT. REPROGRAM THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) TO THE LATEST CALIBRATION USINGIDS RELEASE 54.5 AND HIGHER. THIS NEW CALIBRATION IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE VCM 2008.3 DVD. CALIBRATION FILES MAY ALSO BE OBTAINED AT WWW.MOTORCRAFT.COM.

Thanks. This sounds exactly like what mine is doing.

I'd walk in armed with the info that StdCab posted and see where they can go from there. I wouldn't 'insist' that this is what is happening but, I would insist that they check it against this TSB. Hopefully that'll fix the weird shift!

Good luck and keep us posted!

I've known the service manager for years at the local dealer and he knows I do my homework before I come in with an issue. Won't be a problem.
