Remove Edge for Service?

I'm taking my 06 Lariat 4x4 in for service tomorrow. Dealer is replacing the IWE solenoid and the hubs if damaged. I have an Edge Evolution programmer running on the performance level. Should I remove this and return the programming to stock before taking it to the dealer???

They tell me the repair is covered under my Ford ESP so i dont want to give any excuses for them to change their minds.

Yeah I would definitely remove it and set it back to stock.

My truck was in for work (out of warranty) and they still grilled me over whether or not I had tuning. They didn't want to work on the truck if it did

Since the repair your having done has nothing to do with the PCM (what the EDGE tuner changes), it should not matter, but I'd do it just to be safe. These tuners save your stock mapping, so it should only take a minute (or less) to set it back to stock.

Is your's removeable (to "hide" the evidence), or is it mounted in one of those housings on the left dash?
The dealership could always claim that you were "rough" with your vehicle (by seeing the EDGE tuner), so this would be playing it safe.

Mine is in one of those left side of dash housings but I think I can remove it pretty easily. Pain will be pulling the cable out - not hard to do but if I left it in there's always a chance they'd find it.

Take it out for no other reason than some sticky fingered lowlife may decide he wants an Edge more than you do. Since it is so easy to install and take out you may as well give yourself piece of mind and remove it.

yeah and if you take it out make sure you do return it back to stock dont just unplug it... My boss took in his bullydog programmed diesel and didnt return it to stock, and then they changed the PCM code and so his programmer wouldn't work till it was reset, a bit of a hassle... so you might as well do it for piece of mind

Absolutely. Always return it to stock before you take it in, even if there is no warranty and you don't remove the monitor. They have been known to do people a "favor" and relash the PCM.

What if you set back to stock and remove and they do reflash the PCM. Can you still reinstall the edge/gryphon without any problems?

Only if the new calabration is one of the many already in the unit. Otherwise, you may have to update the unit to download the calibration.

So would you advise to also insert in the nifty "do not reflash, consult owner" plug?

So basically...return to stock, remove all visual evidence of the gryphon/edge, plug everything back in when I get home and try to program. And hope they didnt reflash.

Would you also do this if you were taking the truck in to the dealership for an oil change? I got 5-years of changes for free.

There are two different issues here.

One, do you care if they see that you have a tuner and might disallow a warranty claim simply because you have a tuner? If so, then remove all evidence.

Two, if they will be doing anything other than an oil change, I would return it to stock.

I no longer have a warranty, so I leave my unit in but if they are going to do anything other than an oil change, I return it to stock, just to be safe. You never know what they might decide to do. I also tell the service manager to write on the ticket, "do not reflash without discussing with the customer".
