Will expedition motor fit in f150?

My buddy's early 2004 f150 oil pump decided to crap out and caused the motor to become locked up. Long story short, 2 different mechanics both said a new motor is needed. We are exploring pretty much all possibilities and I was wondering if an expedition 5.4L 3 V would fit that did NOT have the 6 spd tranny.

I would think thats its the same motor with maybe some transmission adapters needed. What do you guys think about that?

Any other options?

Thanks in advance

It should drop right in. From the firewall forward, the F150 and Expedition are mostly the same.

thanks quintin. I was guessing that it would, but just wanted to make sure. Do the expy use the same transmission?

Yes, 4R75 just like the F150. The operating strategy may be a tad different in an Expedition, but that's mostly in the PCM which doesn't matter since you'd be using the F150's processor.

from comparing my 2006 F-150 5.4 3v, and my 2008 Expy 5.4 3v, they look identical

my 2008 has the new heads/plugs, but the overall motor is identical.

so basically, take the new motor you find, strip it down to just a bare longblock without any accessories or upper intake, and put the F-150 parts back onto it. Should be a 100% plug 'n play at that point

They all came that way, unless it is the Heritage (old body).

He might have a 4.6 2V in the truck originally though. He never said which engine was in the truck unless I missed it.

Carlsson3,

Love that engine! I can pick one up for $15K. But, I noticed theres a $2K wiring kit on it. Once you start to hit $20K, it makes you think twice about it as these trucks aren't worth the hassle.

Be advised though that some valvetrain parts are different between '04 and '05+, so if you ever have to order cams, followers, etc. for it, make sure you let the parts house know that you have a 2005 engine.

I did the same thing and have not been able to make it run correctly, wont idle and
p0340 code. tested all wiring and sensors.

Did your changeover work?
