The Official LT handle install guide (w/pics)

Here it is, so many people have asked how to do this or are confused as to some of the instructions posted earlier so here is a complete guide with pictures. This really is a very easy install and an excellent mod. Hope it helps. Basically these are Ram SS/T's instructions with photographs.

Step 1 is to remove the door panel.

1) Insert flat blade screwdriver into the hole at the top of the cover plate behind the door interior door handle

2)Lift front corner of the switch panel up and remove

3)Disconnect window and door switch connectors from panel

4)Using 10mm socket to remove screw from switch panel hole

Now onto removing the handle

Remove the two 10mm bolts from the back of the handle (sorry picture is too dark)

Remove (2) rubber plugs out of the door jamb (push in with screwdriver and pull out)

Remove (2) 10mm bolts out from behind rubber plugs (top bolt is reused only)

Pull old door handle out starting with the farthest corner from the door edge

Make sure you tape around the exterior of the door handle to avoid scratching of the paint

The handle is attached to the door lock cylinder rod on by a white clip and the handle is attached at the top by a long curved rod. The rod with the red paint is the handle rod and the small curved one at the bottom is attached to the door lock cylinder

The easiest way to completely remove the handle after the door lock rod is disengaged is to twist the corner farthest from the rod(bottom right) in a clockwise motion and this will disengage the lever rod from the handle and voila it's off.

Here is a pic of the back of the handle once it's removed to give you an idea of what the white lock cylinder clip looks like. The lever rod attaches to the round plastic piece in the upper corner

With all of this completed just switch the lock cylinder to the new handle by removing the little horseshoe clip and reinstalling. Then do all these steps in reverse and your done. Took me about an hour and a half to do this and believe me it is very very easy.

Hope this helps. Good luck to everybody doing this mod.

I know... I actually did this mod like 3 weeks ago but I could here a little nut that I had dropped and thought had fallen onto the ground inside the door panel. Josiah had asked for a write up on it so considering he helps us all out with his write-ups and videos, I though it only fair to help him out. Those speakers suck and believe me they will be replaced soon.

Looks great! Thanks for putting that together.

Just out of curiosity, are there any additional steps for hooking up the keypad and making it operable?

I actually eliminated the keyholes and keypad (truck didn't come with it anyway) but I think it's just another electrical connector if you already have it and if you don't I believe you just take it to the dealer and have it programmed. Maybe somebody else on here that has done this can help out.

Key holes too??? Nice custom touch! Is there going to be a difference in the install with the key holes/lock cylinders?
