2004 F150 Problems...

So, I have a 2004 F150 and the problem that I am having is that when I am accelerating, the truck moans like it has a load on it. Also, it doesent seem to get the picture and doesent shift quickly to correct the problem.

Also, when going up a hill it doesent downshift and it actually pings a little until I give it a bit more gas, but it still doesent shift.

I know that many of you may think its the tranny, but we just put new components in it so it should be good to go. The air filter and fuel filters are new also.

But it just moans like its starving and I have to make it shift with my foot, it just doesent seem to know that it should be doing it.

I have asked a lot of other guys with the same truck as me and they have varrying answers, but none of them are mechanics and they all seemed to have been idiots and wrote it off as the tranny having problems.

But I think that something is just not telling it what it needs to do.

What do you guys think?

Does it have an aftermarket intake on it?

No it doesent. Its all stock.

It has a K&N Filter, but it did this before I installed the new filter.

Do you have a tuner on it like a edge or gryphon? Sounds to me like the programming for the ecm is screwed up somehow.

sounds like to me it could be fuel related (due to the pinging noise) or even a cat problem, with the loss of power.

And it has been doing it ever since I bought the truck in November.

I dont think its a cat issue because it passed smog okay (again, back in November). Also, we just changed the fuel filter, and that helped another issue that I was having which was it would shut off sometimes when I parked the truck. That happened twice to me and I changed the fuel filter.

But on a serious note, I think there was a software update for the 04's that addressed the shift points. Don't quote me on this though.

So if I go to the Ford dealer to have them reflash the computer are they going to charge me?

Is it the computer that I need reflashed, or do I ask for something else?

This is the perfect time to get a custom tune, if you have $300 to drop for it that is.
