Wrench...

I'm on my way to drop off my daughter at preschool this AM, on the interstate. The truck stutters slightly, and the wrench comes on. Weird sound out of the exhaust. When I gave it more gas, it cleared up. After I dropped my daughter off, I ran the xcal 2 to check for any DTC codes, and none came up, the wrench light was gone. I loaded to stock program on in case I take it to the dealer...

Thoughts?

Injector issue?

This happened to my 05 4.6 before. I was driving down the freeway, wrench came on and truck went in to limp mode. I shut the truck off, waited 2 minutes, then restarted it. It's ran perfectly ever since. I never got any codes. Maybe it was just a freak thing?

Seems to be a rash of injector problems this week. If it acts up again, shut it off and get it to the dealer.

Well the truck definitely went in to safe mode so you could limp it home. Have you been doing any engine work where you could have forgot to reconnect a connector that would have sent an error code to the pcm? If not probably just a fluke and its worked itself out now. But if it happens again I would be headed to the nearest dealer to have them check the injectors.

Stealth's engine stopped on him yesterday afternoon, had to be towed. It appears to be injectors, at least that is the early guess.

That is not good, man I hope this is not a 3v plague that is spreading through the air. I am really considering just buying new ones and being done with it.

Mine is injectors. The truck hydrolocked when the technician tried to pull her into the service bay. :o

Mine never threw the wrench, but I was able to read the DTC with the Edge, P0175.

I had this happen to me but threw codes pointing to TPS (forgot which codes).
I cleaned the throttle body and butterfly valve with clean rag w/ WD40...wiped up a lot of gunk, cleared the codes and the truck not only runs much better, but I haven't had symptoms of the problem return. In a month or so, I would like to do a bench clean of the TB. BTW, my early symptoms were stumbing idle, both cold and warm.
My suggestion: it takes about 20mins to get to the TB, so try cleaning it out.

I've been out twice more today, no issues. I am back on the stock program, I might throw the 91 tune back on again, wait and see what happens... I haven't been under the hood doing anything except hooking up my power wire for the amps.

That really sucks, but at least is was right there for them. Well hopefully ford makes it right for ya keep us updated.

Krohbar:
Is there any way the battery cables could be a little loose to where it would have shifted causing the computer to read an error and switch to safe mode?

Well, I undid the battery cable when I put the stock program on there, so it's tight now. It didn't seem loose when I took it off this am, but, to be honest, it did happen when I hit a spot in the interstate...

Well if it was while you hit a rough spot on the interstate I would just proceed with caution. Pay attention to the motor for the next week, but I would think its safe to continue to run your 91 tune. My guess is a sensor somewhere did not agree with that interstate spot to well and triggered the safe mode.
