im installing troyer underdrive pulleys on my 06 5.4 and need to know the super secret way to get the fan shroud out! or at least the proper way to get the fan and fan shaft off so i can get this done! i spent an hour playing with the shroud and said forget it. pls dont jump all over me im not dumb this is just the first time ive done any serpentine work. also it was 1am after a hard days work. also anyone running these feel a difference? thanks in advance!

 

getting the fan shroud off sucks


you have to undo the coupling for the fan, and then pull the shroud and the fan out together. these aren't like older trucks where the shroud just pops right out




to get the fan coupling off, you can do 2 things.

1. get the Ford fan wrench tool
2. use a strap wrench to hold the fan pulley still...then use a wrench to loosen the joint

 

Good time to install a set of E-fans.

 

hey thanks guys ill give it another shot. and ya the shroud sucks im used to my 88 i had as a mud truck.. when u worked on something it involved one part not removing everything in the surrounding area haha. glad its not a 6.4 p-stroke
