Question Shorty Antenna?

Hey people.. I've been looking around for a shorter antenna for my truck.. I can't really fit into my parking spot at my apt complex because the darned thing is soo long.

Anywho, has anyone else swapped theirs out, and where did you buy it from? The stock antenna gets pretty decent reception, but will an aftermarket antenna be better or worse?

It doesn't have to be extremely short, just as long as its cab height.. post pics or links please! :P

btw.. how hard is it to swap it out?

Been wanting to do this aswell. They have em at 4WheelParts. Several different lengths. Also much more beefier. Think they were $19. And they come with screws to fit any vehicle. Thinking about getting one soon, but i too wonder about reception.

Pull the ball off the top with a pair of vice grips. cut it to whatever length you want. File down the antenna, add a dab of crazy glue....tap the ball back on, hit it with a coat of rattle can gloss black.....all done

You can't fit into a parking spot cuz of the stock radio antenna??

I like the length, it's sort of a check cuz it hits my garage when I pull in so if I'm parking anywhere else I know to get out and check to make sure the roof won't hit once the antenna bounces off the ceiling!

Just ordered one from 4wheelparts for $20 after shipping. Its only 3" tall. They claim it gets great reception. Well see.

I've heard of several people doing that over the years.

can't see it affecting reception much...you're only chopping 3-4" of height off.

might do this myself. It is rather annoying when the antenna is bouncing off the roof of a parking garage....have to leave it 1" taller than the cab though as a "indicator"

mine hits on the way in and out of my underground garage spot, but I'd like it if it was just an inch or 2 above the roof, so I'd know that once it touched, I really had to worry. As it is now, it hits and there's still 6" or clearance. So when I'm somewhere new I have to roll along with my body out of the truck looking up! I usually get some smiles out of people passing by.

I bought a 14" one w/ great reception from http://www.antennax.com/ and I think he also has a Ebay store if you search for seller Antenna_X.

My wife got me a "shorty" antenna this past x-mas 'cause I was always complaining about it hitting the garage door on the way in and out. It's 19" high and "beefy". Reception is great , no change. Looks good too. It came with 2 different screws for mounting. Easy swap.

I found this one on eBay last year. It was easy to put on and works great. My antenna would catch the top of the garage door every time, and I just got tired of hearing it twice a day.

I pulled the tip off, cut about 4" off, drilled the hole a little bigger, applied JB Weld to the ball, and shot it with a blast of spray paint. Twenty minutes later I had a shorter antenna that still works the same.
