I know this sounds like a dumb question but why is your rear plate orange but your front plate white?

Our plates are fully reflective but it is illegal to show white light to the rear of a UK vehicle (including reflectors) apart from reversing lamps. So they settled on yellow, being the next best colour for visibility. came in about 1972-3 they were both black with silver letters/numbers before that.

they love the reflectiveness now with all the speed cameras every 100 yards on uk roads
