Wind Shield Wiper Mod

Several on here have re-indexed their driver's side wiper. It corrects the problem of the wiper not coming over far enough on the left side, leaving a wide strip(3-4 inches) unwiped that blocks your vision. I remember the first time I read where someone was correcting it way back in 2005. I fully intended to make the mod, just never thought about it when I had time to do it. Finally, the other day, driving in the rain, I said "enough". When I got home I was going to do it.

You pull the blade off the **** and remove the wedge that fits in the cut out on the ****, which allows you to index it wherever you wish. I was concerned about getting the wedge out without damaging it or the splines. Should not have worried. When I pulled the wiper off, the wedge fell out and dropped down in the hole. I then matched the blade with the passenger side, in the off position. It now comes to within an inch of the left edge of the glass at the top of the wiper. A side benefit is that the truck looks much better when the wipers are turned off, since both blades are now the same height and parallel, whereas before the drivers side pointed down when turned off. Took me about 5 minutes to make the change and I have enjoyed the fix with the rain these last 2 days.

As I said, several have done this and have written about, just thought some might not have seen it or been reluctant to do the mod. Just do it! Especially if you live where snow is a factor.

It is very very simple to do and helps a ton. Good write up for those that have not done it, explains clearly how to do it.

Now you'll need a new sig pic now Blue! That wiper looks awful

Yes, it's a very easy and great mod to do. I've been enjoying it in the rain over the last couple of weeks as well. It definitely makes a difference.

Nope, too many have done this already! All I did was write up a reminder for those that have missed it. But, maybe I should get one for the write up I did a long time ago when I painted the spokes on my XLT wheels! I think I was the first on that one.

Agreed, it looks like someone already indexed it, but it's actually sitting a lil higher than the passenger side.
Mine are sitting perfectly level with one another.

I wonder if someone did mess with it? I bought the truck from the dealer with 18K on it. One of the bigwigs at that dealership drove it for 2 years with a manufacture plate. Maybe he said something to the service guys and they fixed it.

It's an 04? I just noticed that. I was assuming it was a newer truck. Yeah, if it's an 04, I bet it's been re-indexed. One other possibility, Stealth says he fixed his by swapping sides with the blades, He says he mooved the passenger side to the drivers side and that leveled his.

Welcome to the site!

The only thing wrong with the key pad is that when I try to use it to unlock the door, it sets the alarm off. I punch in the code in a hurry and it stops. So, 3 or 4 loud beeps instead of the usual 2. I have no idea what could cause that unless it has to do with the way that alarm was wired.
