need tire help!

Hey guys,

I have an 04 FX4 Screw with only 32,000 mi. ( about 24,000 on the tires since I upgraded from stock 17's to stock 18's (275 65 18) with BFG's at 8,000mi)

There is still plenty of tread left but, they have severe dry rot and I want to replace them with something slightly larger to fill the wells( I have an AS 2" level kit) I was thinking a 33" tire.

I drive pretty much all paved roads but, want something somewhat agressive looking like the Firestone Destination AT (which has a buy 3 get one free sale now) or Bridgestone Revo. And something that will do well in the rain and snow. Unfortunately, I cannot find either in a size slightly larger than what I have now.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!
Note: I have used the "search button" way too much and still haven't found what I'm looking for.

thanks for any help

I have always been a big fan of the BFG A/T and have not had experience with them dry rotting. I actually have a set on an old 4Runner that sits outside and doesn't get driven much. They are probably 6 years old and still look fine.

Also, I had a set of the Toyo OpenCountry A/Ts and was pretty happy with those. Not sure how long they would have lasted because I got a new car when they had about 20,000 miles on them, but they were quiet and had a nice look on an 18" wheel.

Right now I have the Michelin LTX AT2 and LOVE them. I know it won't have quite the aggressive tred pattern you are looking for but are fantastic on the pavement. I would at least look into them. They are expensive but I'll bet you get 55,000 + miles out of 'em. I have a few pictures of mine in my gallery (link below) on 20" wheels.

Also, IMO, I would stay with a 33" tire to keep your same driving performance and responsiveness. My Michelins are 32.6 I think."

hill2107- I'm sure the 35's look good but, I'm with Georgia on the 33's in keeping the performance.

thanks for the info Gerogia. I did see the Michelin's but, yes, I'm looking for something a little more aggressive. Not that I need it, just for looks really since my blacktop queen never sees dirt(don't want to have to clean the mud off

Maybe you're didn't dry rot with the warmer weather you have in Georgia? Not sure but, mine have dry rot cracks between the treads and on the sidewall shoulders.

I'm considering the Cooper ATR's but, am open to suggestions.
