8" Rize Industries Lift
8" Rize Industries Lift
I bought the lift today...im gonna run 37's with 18" rims..first off, does anybody suggest anything i should do with the gearing...second, is anyone runnin superchips in their 5.4l...if so which ones...thanks guys
As for the gearing, you need at least 4.56's to run 37's you could also run 4.88's or 5.14's
Don't waste your time or money on the superchips tuner. There are much better tuners out there for the same money. Check out the chips and tuners subforum for more info.

x2 there are better tuners, get a gyphron with custom tunes or get an edge.
x3 against superchips. get a custom tuning from either PHP, VMP, or Troyer. i am one of few on this site who hate the Edge. my truck broke down twice cuz of that pos. almost caused me to total my truck, it died twice while i was pulling out into traffic. i have VMP tuning and its incredible. my dad runs the gryphon from PHP and its a really nice tune as well. if you want a display get the gryphon if you dont save yourself some money and get a xcal 2 or 3 from VMP or troyer
Gearing. 4.88's would be your best bet, if you drive more highway 4.56's might be nicer to give you a little better MPG tho

no they won't fit in the front, 4.88's is the largest. that guy must have been running a 4x2.
the OP must be 4x4, since he's running a rize.

well 4.88's will help your city, but will hurt your highway. with larger tires you basically get a extra overdrive on the interstate before re-gearing, you will need to regear, you have no choice about that unless you wanna shorten your tranny's life. if you want better highway mpg go w/ 4.56's. 4.88's will put you close to stock rpm's tho and give you better city mpg. so basically 4.56 help highway hurt city. 4.88's help city hurt highway. you have to trade off on one or the other.
the general rule of thumb on the site is 4.56 for 35's and 4.88's for 37+

4.88's and 4.56's are only maybe 100 rpm difference at highway speed. 12-13 mpgs on the highway are expected, give or take.
bigger brakes would be a good idea, not required though, but expect on wearing them out sooner than normal.

If you have 3.73 you don't have to change. There is a few guys here still running 3.73's without issue. If you had factory 4.10's that would be even better reason not change if you didn't want to drop the coin for it. However if you have 3.55's like then you pretty much have to change the gears. I would personally go 4.56 so I would be just alittle geared high with those tires.
Your truck will look great either way, but I would certainly do 20's rather then 18's. If you have 3.73 or 4.10 then wait on the gears and do the 20's.
As for a programmer, a edge or gryphon will be a good bet. They both give you a lot of vehicle parameters to view, and you can correct for gears and tire size as well. They are both good, just depends on what you want to spend for one.
