04-08 F150 Owners without a bug deflector question...
I have a bug deflector on my truck mainly for stone chips but like someone else posted in another thread, around 70mph we get a wind noise/whistle which did not bother me too much at first, but now I am considering removing mine but I am afraid the front of my hood will be speckled by flying rocks and debris
So my question is, for those who do not run them, and use their trucks to commute to work daily: how bad are the chips on the front of your hood?

Ive got hundreds of rock chips. I used to drive on a lot of dirt roads though. Washed the truck today and got pretty po'ed when I noticed all of them. I have a lot more on the front of my truck than on the hood though.
45K miles and maybe a small chip or two nothing too noticable. One big chip and ding about half way back but nothing a bug deflector would have prevented anyway. The paint on this truck compared to my firebird and my wife’s accord is 100x’s tougher. Wife's accord as the same mileage and is horrible....hundreds of small chips.
Simply put, if you live on or around rocky roads then leave it on. The paint on these cars and trucks today will chip in a second. I've got an 05', no bug deflector, with no chips on mine but I do mostly highway/interstate driving. However I do have two nice chips/cracks in my windshield. Both by some S.O.B Honda Civics, can you believe it????

I have 83,000 and lots of chips, but I can't stand the bug deflector on these trucks, plus, I have seen them rub paint off the corners.

I have 37k on mine and I have about 4-6 chips on the hood. The biggest being the size of a pin head. Of course we'll see how many I have accumulated over the last winter once I detail her (soon I hope). Now the bumper is a different story.
Like said above it's obviously going to vary depending on your length of drive, road conditions, and lets not forget about a little luck too

As I put into another thread, I just bought the Lund Interceptor II and it seems starnge to have such large gaps around the sides of the grill where it changes over (contours). Lund stated it was made that way to be able to clean under the shield. paid 50.00 new
