Ordered my new Firestone Destination 285/70R17 ATs today from tire rack..My 05 F-150 STX SC Truck has 31,000 pampered miles and TWO of the OEM general ameritrac tires are shot(cords broken)..
truck came with oem stx wheels but i bought oem chrome xlt rims on ebay in 07..
Anywho which wheels will look better to you when i mount tires ? My profile pic shows orginal stx wheel in front propped up, but the rear is what is on the truck now,the xlt chrome ones..Any opinions please??

 

I like the chrome wheels, I also have the Destination tires, bought them last summer!!

 

I like aluminum wheels better. It had the chrome ones on it when I bought it but I bought '05 XLT aluminum wheels and they look much better.

 

The STX wheels look way better then those chrome covered fleet wheel.

 

From a non-looks standpoint, the chrome wheels will kill your brakes faster because they dissipate heat much worse than the aluminum only ones. I actually looked for a truck without chrome wheels for that very reason. When you're stopping 6000+ pounds any little bit helps (and I've seen/heard numerous reports of it being far more than a little bit).

 

I don't know which LXT wheels you have. My 04 has polished aluminum wheels which look chrome. I like them very much.

do u have AS 2.5" on u truck?

yeah i have the silver colored oem stx wheels in boxes after i bought the chromed xlt wheels (i think) on ebay for $100..if i had bought the xlt chromed spoked wheels i would go that way of course..to me the red and chrome rules..but the spoked silver oem stx wheels do modernize in a way the truck..aaaahhhhhhhhhhh

 

oh i heard the 285's fit fine!! its a 4x4 and the wieght of the cap and the tools i always carry make the truck almost level..but i might consider the 2" levelor kit and autospring rear lift this summer or if i have a problem with a rub.

 

ya know,i have an 05 stx and i have had the chrome stx wheels stock and now have the chrome lariat wheels.to be honest i wish i still had my stx wheels.these lariat wheels kinda just gotten stale to look at.too many trucks have them.

 

I actually liked my STX wheels, compared to some of the other ford options....i have new wheels now so they just sit in the garage now....

 

I deff. like the STX rims better.

 

The STX rims look much better. I hate those XLT rims... They look just like the XL's, only to me, the chrome makes them look worse. If fact, I was thinking about getting the STX rims but realized it would look like I'm trying to make an XL look super nice.

 

Why would you not try and make your XL look super nice? Pride in ownership baby.....
