How about the SC Flashpaq upgrade? Anyone think it may be worth it or not?

Bill at PHP. Bill Cohern at PHP was involved in writing the canned programs for Edge. He later left Edge and stated his own company, Power Hungry Performance and writes the custom tunes for the Gryphon. He actually buys the Gryphon hardware from Edge, uses the same canned programs until he gets your custom program written. I have 30,000 on the canned Edge programs and 20,000 on the custom program for a combined 50,000 miles. My truck is stock other than exhaust and I would hate to have to return to the stock tune. Additionally, the gauges are important to me, were they not, I would have an Xcal tuned by Troyer. You really can't go wrong with either, it's just what fits your needs.

I wanted gauges and the custom tuned Gryphon has paid for itself by saving me 30 cents a gallon.

If you gat an "off the shelf" tuner you just wast your money. Spend the extra money and get it custom. I have 2 vids here one stock with just the K&N filter and the other supercharged custom tuned look at how it shifts 100% better than stock.

I disagree. An off the shelf Edge is totally worth the money, it adds about 25 hp. It just isn't as good as the Gryphon with Bill's tune. If I could not have the Gryphon and my unit went out, I would be buying another Edge immediately.

I don't understand the point of your post. The canned tunes drastically improve the shifts over stock. Plus, why are you comparing a supercharged tune to stock? Two totally different animals.

So you would but lets say an edge tuner for $450 over a custom tuned Xcal or any other tuner for $25-50 more? and get 30-40hp

and it does not matter if its supercharged or not the Roush tune blows my custom tunes are way better than the Roush. and made over 55hp to the tires over the roush tune

It's for a different market. The gauges were important to me, they do not come with the Xcal. I don't race my truck, so the extra 10% out of the Xcal2 or 3 had no value at all. That is why I said above that you have to decide what is best for you. Besides, the discussion was comparing the Edge to the Gryphon and wether it was worth the difference.

The Edge made my truck a totally different vehicle, so yes, a lot better than stock. But, I knew when I bought it, I was giving up some HP if I wanted the max.

There is another way if you go with sct do a dealer search at sct.com find your local shop with in house dyno purchuse a tuner from them and some will costum tune for free if you buy the tuner from them then your spot on from the beginning.

The tuner forum seems like a lot of bickering and I don't take time to read arguments.
Sorry, i will try to explain further. I've owned both the Edge and a custom Tuned Xcal2.

You want more performance, and yes you can do that without going custom. But as you know, many of these trucks run the engine lean from the factory. 2004 and 2005 tend to be the worst years...and you have a 2005. The Edge leans it out more. Dont think so? Search for Thumper's Dyno graphs of his Edge vs his custom tune. I didnt have my Edge anymore when i went to the dyno, but i can tell you that the Troyer Tune i run is pretty much dead on with the A/F ratios.

But thats just the engine. The transmission is also very affected by tuning. The Edge unit I had made my transmission run horrible. I tried so many different settings and could never get it to run right. I updated it too, that didn't work. Finally one day my transmission refused to used first gear. I limped it home, took the Edge off and the problem was gone. In 1 month's time the Edge caused more problems than my truck ever had in the first 72k miles of its life. Ive been using Troyer's tune for the past 25k miles with ZERO issues. The transmission is super smooth.

So you want performance. But If I were you, I'd also want safety. Plus, the custom tunes will give you BETTER performance, both from a power perspective and from the tranny.

If you want the Gauges too, get the Gryphon.

There is no way to prove it with out making time passes or a dyno, but I am positive that that Bill's 93 Performance tune is about 10% stronger than the Level 3 in the Edge.
Bluejay,

I would want to see REAL numbers, not someones "seat of the pants" interpretation of the improvement the Gryphon makes on a stock motor. That's $100 extra, on top of the price of the Edge itself.

Show me the cold hard facts.

Along with the horsepower numbers (which might not be too different) lets also see the A/F numbers...which i guarantee you WILL differ quite a bit from an Edge to a custom written tune.
