Stuck receiver

guys I need some help. I know this probably isnt the right forum for this question but I checked out the towing forum and it just didnt appear to have enough interest so I didnt think I would get any answers there for a while and I'm kinda in a hurry here. I also did a search which suprisingly turned up nothing...I cant imagine that I am the first that this has happened to. I bought a truck in Pennsylavania this weekend and also had to go to NJ to pick up a bike that my brother bought, the truck I bought had 5k miles on it but has been up in the salt/sand up there a little bit which obviously caused the receiver hitch to rust some on the inside. So when I went to slide the hitch in for the trailer needless to say it was reluctant to go in. Quite a bit of effort was required to get it in (and I know at this point I shoulda though ahead and greased it but it was 15 degree's and I was cold and in a hurry so we bumped it in with a hammer...flame me after you give me advice please). So anyway, towed the bike back to the south got all unloaded, unhooked trailer, went to remove hitch and as expected didnt budge. Tapped it some with a hammer on all sides trying to free it up a little, no luck. AT the advice of a friend hooked a chain to it and with just the clutch of another truck tried to pull it out.. we didnt yank on it just bumped it with what force his ranger could put out just letting the clutch out.....nothing. So, all that being said....any ideas you guys have on how to get this out? Short of cutting it out. I know I can heat it with a propane torch (the actual receiver) to get it to expand and allow some play in there but this is on a saleen f-150 which has a rear fascia/ground effects....I prefer not to get that much heat near that plastic. The only thing Ihave come up with is taking a syringe and needle and squirting oil in the very small space that there is in a few places around the receiver and let it soak for a day or so then tap it a little more with a hammer and pull on it some more...maybe the oil will lube it and break up some of the rust inside it?? I know it's long but if anyone has any suggestions I'm all ears....then you can tell me what A dumb *** i was for not lubing it going in when I felt resistance. Thanks in advance.

Remove the bumper, then try the heat. Heat works wonders!!

we have gotten stuck receivers out before and other times have not. if a maul don't work and move it any, well your SOL. i would take the hitch off and heat the receiver up, safest way to get it out, without having to risk damage to the plastic facia. i keep my hitch in all the time, just for safety sake, but i spray the inside of the hole, waterproof grease the hell out of it.

Try using some good penetrating fluid let it sit for a while, then chain it up again but this time to a tree or telephone pull get your wife/girlfriend//buddy who ever you have put the truck in drive with only slight pressure on the chain, if it dose not come out then get you BFG (big ****** hammer) and hit the reciever while there is some pressure on it.. but be very careful it has the potential to fly out like a bullet.

I would spray some WD-40 or something similar in there, let it soak for a day, and try yanking it out again with the ranger. If that don't work, pull off the bumper cover and put the heat to it.

Oh, and you did make sure the pin was out?

One time my buddies hitch got stuck like that...what we did is parked the truck ten feet away from a solid object(in this case our skid steer) hooked a ratchet strap into a loop and around the reciever and around the hook, and got some tension on it. We sprayed it with pb blaster and beat it up and down and left and right while continuing creating more tension on the strap...about 5 mins and its out. Make sure to put on the ebrake and whatnot to not damage the tranny. This hitch was actually rusted into the reciever, not just hammered in tight.

ok, did a little google research and apparently PB blaster works wonders for situations like this so the plan is to spray it down and let it soak for 2 days re-applying the pb blaster regularly during this time. Then we will try using the weight of the ranger on it again and try striking it all ove rwith the maul with tension on it....maybe that'll get it. Appreciate the help and any more suggestions are welcomed. And yes the pin is out....I am a dumb *** but not that big'a dumb ***. this time anyway. I'll post what happens in case someone else ever runs into this.

Same here, rusted in place, put a ratchet puller to another truck, and used Kano oil on it, beat the living heck of of it with a Bosch electric impact hammer from the rear with a drift point tool installed.. Took about 45 min, but it did come out.

You beat me to it but i was going to say that pb blaster does wonders. Its way way better than wd-40 for things such as this. I would soak it a couple times and let it work its way in there for awhile and then try to get it out. I cant imagine that that and pulling it with ur buddy's truck again would not get it out.

I'd would do like the rest said, spray it down with some type of penetrating oil, chain it to something solid and use a come along or ratchet strap to keep pressure on it while tapping it with a big hammer. May take awhile but it should work, worked on my dad's 98 GMC. Good Luck.

I am glad that I am not the only one that has done something like this. The hitch was stuck in my 94 and after hitting it with a maul it didn't budge. So I WD-40ed it for a couple of days and still nothing with the maul. Then I got out one of our Bobcats and pulled on the hitch and it just pulled the truck backwards, so then chained the front of the truck to one of our tractors and pulled on the hitch with the Bobcat. I also had my dad useing the torch to heat the receiver up, and it ended up coming out, but it took alot longer than I thought it was going to. My next step was to just cut the receiver off the truck and put a new one on.

Spray PB Blaster on it for a couple days and then try tugging it out with your buddies Ranger. If that doesn't work, then get out the torch and start heating it.
